Thread: City Chat Tab?

I don't read these forums often and I skimmed the first page and didn't see it as a header. So I wanted to bring this up and see if it has been talked about. Has there ever been a topic on adding a chat tab for citizens of a city? For cities with mixed guilds or unguilded citizens that would be nice to have

Yes, it has been discussed before and I don't think there is anyone who wouldn't like a permanent city chat channel tab. Ideally it would be nice if it was permanent for citizens, and temporary for those people who enter the city limits. Liklihood of this happening? I swear I saw some reference to it in a future publishbut don't hold me to it!


In the meantime, you can work around this by issuing a script to everyone you wish to have rights to start the chat channel. I do this with alias files but you could equally well just paste this into a macro. This is an example to create a chat room from the command line and invite people specified:


/chatRoom create SWG.Eclipse.Chat.CITYNAME yes no "CITYNAME (Details or webaddress here)"; /pause 5; /chatRoom join chat.CITYNAME; /pause 0.2; /chatRoom invite CITIZEN chat.CITYNAME; /pause 0.2; /chatRoom invite CITIZEN chat.CITYNAME; /pause 0.2; /chatRoom invite CITIZEN chat.CITYNAME; /pause 0.2; /chatRoom invite CITIZEN chat.CITYNAME; /pause 0.2; /chatRoom invite CITIZEN chat.CITYNAME; /pause 0.2; /chatRoom invite CITIZEN chat.CITYNAME; /pause 0.2; /chatRoom invite CITIZEN chat.CITYNAME; /pause 0.2;


Et ceterafor all citizens and friends of the city. Hope that helps!

I'd like to see an official city chat channel created, too. While it's all good to create one myself, won't it just disappear once I log off?

Yes exactly. We circulate our alias file so other's can set it up and also pass on the op status with:

/chat op NAME Tirius so that someone can always invite. Works, but I want a permanent one too.
