Thread: Neutral Trade District Specialization Idea

Today an Imperial player said something along the lines of "Your either on the side of the Imperials or you’re a part of the rebellion- there is no being neutral" to me and a group of my fellow PA members.

Now, my understanding of this GAME was that either you could choose to be a part of the GCW or you could live your life as a neutral without getting involved. Correct? Some of us have dreamed for a very long time of being neutral crafters and businessmen and women who no don't directly take a part in the GCW. People who do not want to be restricted on who they deal with or who they socialize with. What better place is there to do business with all then an official business environment like a city for these types of players?

This is what a lot of us have been waiting for, the chance to build a real hub for business and trade. But if the things go as they are now, neutrals may be forced to bend to one side as their business may be driven off by either side. Camping shuttle ports and cloning centers (yes I know there is a 30 second timer coming up soon) may not be a problem for Imp or Rebel controlled cities, but it is for neutrals. Neutral cities will become battlegrounds or over ridden by "thugs" much like Bestine is now. Some people may wish to live in an atmosphere like that yes, but I am talking about the people who don't and why there is no option for them to do so.

This is what I believe the players want, the first three the devs have given us-

Imperial Cities
Rebel Cities
Disputed Cities- Think Bestine or another dev city with more constant GCW fighting
****And TRUE neutral cities- No GCW fighting, no bullies, no player spawn camping***

To try and help neutrals have a safe place and some say in how they run things-

I propose either an addition to the Manufacturing Centre or Prototype Assembly
Research Centre specializations or the creation of a new specialization. I all it "Trade District" (haha I know…).

This extension or new specialization would force anyone coming into the city (via shuttleport/cloning center/or by foot or mount) to go Covert 100%. And stay that way until they visit one of the locations were they can go back to Overt (sorry I don't know a lot about the Over/Covert changing system... I'm neutral ha!). This will allow for a TRUE neutral trade city where ANYONE can come to trade without the city residents or city officials worrying about being bullied. It isn't for everyone and it isn't free as you can tell it is a specialization, so it will cost weekly credits to do this.

I feel something like this would open up a lot and give us all more options on how to run our cities.

You will find many neutral/imperial and neutral/rebel cities. All cities are for the most part neutral. The Imp/Rebel city comes into place when defenses, 1 faction type but not the other, etc. is added to the cities. Any of the large "merchant" cities I suspect will stay neutral in order to bring in the largest customer base.

The GCW will always be going on, even if you don't see it. Even neutral planets had the two sides fighting unless the neutral planet could prevent it w/ force.

"You will find many neutral/imperial and neutral/rebel cities."

I agree- these are the “Disputed Cities” I spoke of. Place where they are not officially claiming either side, but one side has more presence then another. You can say your neutral all you want but if there is a pack of Rebels hanging outside waiting for a Imp to pop up, your a Rebel city if you like it or not. Some will, some won’t, I’m talking about the people who won’t.

"All cities are for the most part neutral. The Imp/Rebel city comes into place when defenses, 1 faction type but not the other, etc. is added to the cities."

That doesn’t make the city neutral at all. If it favors one side over another, then it isn’t neutral.

"Any of the large "merchant" cities I suspect will stay neutral in order to bring in the largest customer base."

I agree also and that is what I am saying. Merchants want to be in the center but right now, no one truly can be neutral. If a large group wants to come and camp your shuttleport or patrol your streets smashing anyone who is not on their side, that removes the neutral-ness of the city and forcibly makes it a neutral/imperial or neutral/rebel city. That will chase away a large part of the customer base not looking for a fight 30 seconds after they hop of a shuttle.

To me that seems like it could be very borderline griefing "We don’t want any Imperials in YOUR town"??? You feel it is ok to allow "bullies" to come in and prey on folks, and turn business areas into war zones all in the name of the GCW?
