Thread: Exactly how close to an npc city can you place a player city?

Hi everyone

I have scoured the net and the forums and I cannot find an answer to this question.

Since the deeds are not redeedable, and darn expensive, this is not something I would like to learn through trial and error.

My guess is the answer was right in front of me all along...and I have wasted my time spectacularly.

So: Exactly how close can a player city be to an npc city.

-does it vary city to city, or planet to planet?

-is it from a specific point within the city?

Any advice you could offer wrt this topicis greatly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance!

From the FAQ up in the stickies:

Q: How far do I have to be from another city hall/NPC city?

A: 1000m

Thank you for your timely response!

However, 1000m from what?

-the no build zone?

-the closest building?

-the wp that spawns when you activate a city waypoint?

-the center of the city hall?

-the edge of the city hall?

-out front of the starport?

I read the 1000m rule, but it is too vague...and this is something that i must admit is too expensive to learn through trial and error.

The center of the town, however some worlds have laxer restrictions on them. Primarily the 'adventure' worlds or moons so take that into account. However, regardless of where the center of town is you need to remember that you have your own 450 meter radius. Why cut that in half thanks to the NPC city?

Also, with yourself being so close to another cloning center, shuttleport, and starport you need to think about how high of a level you should go thanks to having pretty much everything you need 30 seconds away. The city I am leading now is the island 1k west of Coronet and because of this I don't really plan on ever getting rank 4 even if the spot opens. It just wouldn't be fair to mayors out in the boonies who have put in just as much effort.

On my server we have a city 900m from the DantMO, 950m from the Dant IO, 900m from Entha and 800m from Eisley. These measurements are from the center of the player city hall to the waypoint marker of the npc city.

Therein lies the confusion...

Because of the glut of player cities that currently exist, I am fairly certain that reaching level 4 will never happen. At least not for quite some time. Hence, my goal would be to get as close to an npc city as is allowed to take advantage of the npc ammenities that I will not be able to provide.

Thank you for the reply.

The above article refers to the distance between player cities, which is, of course, covered in the faq's, and a number of posts in this forum.

However, the question that I haveremains: how far does a player city have to be from an NPC city.

Anyone?

Thx all

Sometimes there are anomolies.

On Kettemoor the cities of Temenos and Riverbend are slightly over 1Km apart. Our borders are about 500m apart. We are both Metropoli and consistantly one of the three largest population cities on the server.

And Zafo doesn't wear shoes...

I have not found this information, but I am going from memory here. I recall that it needs to be 2,000m away from an NPC city. My city is about 2,043m away from Theed and I remember trying to get as close as possible (this was back in Dec of 2003 so....)

There is no exact measurment point to go from; the 1000m is as close to exact as it gets even if it is vague. If you are too close, it will tell you that before you can actually place the City Hall structure so it doesn't cost you a deed every time you try.

It is different around each city, and different shapes too.

On Kettemoor you can see where the line is around Theed. CTRL+M to turn on the overhead map and start to ride. You will see a -well- defined line of houses and empty space. Looks -very- much like the DEVs left some expansion room for Theed, and you can see exactly where it is.
