Just a quick question before I try this for the first time. I searched the forum and read the FAQ but didn't find any information about this.

If the mayor changes the city name, do the people living there have to declaring residence again?

Also, has anyone seen any other effect from doing this? Like wrong name on the overhead map or in the shuttle/star port lists?

It doesn't do anything to the citizenship, it just changes the name in the system similar to what happens when you rename a backpack. I don't know of any glitches with renaming.

I changed the name of my city from New Hamburg to Equinox a year ago. From what I remember it updated in the planet map almost right away, but I think I needed the server reset for it to update the shuttle map.

I am sure it confused the hell out of visitors to my city. Flying into New Hamburg, but ending up in Equinox.... Hehe

Otherwise, it was rather painless
