I was away for a week and came back to find a few new members in the guild. This is a good thing because our city is run by the guild and it is important to keep a certain population for the benefits. The first night I was back one of the new guildies was AFK Spamming on the stpes of guild hall.

Now, this wasn't an ad barker or someone looking for some rare artifact. He was just spamming his elite skills over and over and over.... I sent him a tactful email asking him not to do it right there because it is #1 annoying and #2 pointless. We have always had an unspoken guideline that it is annoying we we just don't do it. But he was new so I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

After his rude reply, I logged on with my new alt. In guild chat a few members discussed a city ordinance against spamming within 100m of town square (exceptions can be made of course). He lost it. He could not understand why we don't just turn off AFK chat notices and such and would not shut up.

Why fight so intently for a right to annoy others in your guild? I don't want to turn off my afk notices. I can't see what the docs and dancers are saying (although I could do without most of the dancers afk panhanlding). Is it too much too ask to be considerate? The majority of my guild agrees and since I'm city militia, I will be enforcing this new ordinance. Especially after his response. just wanted to know what you guys think.

Being considerate to your guild members is what I would also consider an unspoken guideline, but you may need to make it a "written" and enforced rule in this case. If this member is annoying you and your guildies gameplay, the first thing I would do is exactly what you have done so far: kindly mention that his spamming is annoying to the guild. Then enforce the rule, and see how he responds. If he still can't follow the rules, you may need to let him know his guild membership is at stake.

If he ends up losing guild membership or he leaves of his own accord, yet still continues to spam the city, I believe it can be considered harassment (I'm not totally sure on that so please let me know if that is wrong) and you could probably get some CSR action involved.

A guild rule is a guild rule, nobody is an exception. If he can't keep your guild and city rules, for his sake he needs to be looking for another guild and city that better suits his gameplay.

Did I mention that our only guild rule untilrecently was: Don't be a jerk. Since June we have added:

Don't DB guildies.

Don't hunt guild jedi.

Don't spam. <---(we have had players spamming guild chat too)

Luckily in my21 months of being a mayor I have not had this issue. Unfortunetly rules usually are not implimented until something goes wrong. I feel your pain, but you did the right thing of adding the rule.

In a different context we are a neutral city and a militia gave somone zoning rights. They placed mines at the shuttleport. I couldn't remove them. It was really painful. So, I made a rule that day and put it in place. It took me a month to have them remove it. CSR would not. The simple rules I have are in my signiture on our web site.
