Thread: Suggestion of Condemed Structure Use

Being a new politician and having taken over a Metropolis from a guild that has faded away I want to improve the layout and functionality of the town. The town is pretty well filled with houses and structures from past tenants that have een gone for an extrodinary amount of time.

Keepingin mind the following rules from the wishlist:

4 Many Player Cities are affected by condemned structures that will not poof because of the new maintenance rules.

  • There needs to be a time limit on how long a structure can sit condemned beyond waiting for a player's bank account to deplete. There is a fix coming for cancelled accounts, but it is unclear as to if this will also include abandoned structures.

7 Mayors would like the ability to evict citizens from their cities.

  • A word of note about this....in order for this to be a valid item for a "wish list", there need to be checks in place to prevent griefing. A suggestion is to have it work in the same manner that purged structures will (roll-up and placed in bank).

15 Players would like to have better tools for city planning available using in-game tools.

  • It is very difficult to create a precise city plan and maintain that plan in the current system. Politicians would like the ability to designate certain areas of the city (residential, business, certain types of structures) as well as better tools for actually creating the design.

27 Mayors would like the ability to move/re-place structures to a different location within the city limits.

To address number 4 first. What if the Mayor was able to pay the maint on a structure to keep it from being condemed, as well as the property owner. Currently in my local RL community , if a customer cannot pay their property tax , that tax is auctioned off and the person with the lowest intrest rate now has a 'lean' on the peoperty. After 3 years if the property owner does not pay the tax the property goes to auction. The person that has paid the tax is reimbersed from the sale of the propertywith the % of intrest that applies. This also gives the person that paid the tax leverage to buy the property as they have money's invested in it already. This being said, if a mayor makes a 3 month contribution that removes the condemmed status ofthe structure on the 90th day the mayor should be given the opertunity to aquire the property similar to the way a new guild leader can hold the guild hall should he/she have the open lots to support this action.

Another part to this would encompass the remainder of the wishes. The ability for a mayor to create a city plan of course would be great. But now with the ability of 'pack' we might be able to pack a house that we have aquired in the previously mentionedmethod and move it where we deem necessary for a flowing city design. The interesting portion to this would be that the house owner if declared would remain a declared resident to the city.

At this pointI have a number of condemed houses , but because there is no purge an no poof I get to retain our cities class 5 status. I do not want to lose this status , but I do want to straighten out the town a bit and reduce sprawl and work on possibly redeeding houses to new active community members.

I can see a number of hands being raised right now as to the ethics of this:

1) Problems could include members who wish to return at some later date and do not wish to lose their belongings. This is why I suggested a period of time a structure must have beenforclosed on and payed for by the mayorbefore it can be aquired by the mayor. ( perhaps this is a perk of master politician ? so that newb mayors just looking to grief are detered Maybe even the original owner is retained, especially if a mayor is able to pack and move this house without losing the declared resident.

2) Hollow towns such as the one I am mayor of take up cap space on a planet and are not fair to other PC Cities that have a bonafide active citizenship. I have no answer for this, I am being greedy at this point and am hoping to revive both my guild and town without losing status.

3) A mayor being able to pack and move a house should only be done if they had 'aquired' the house through foreclosure.

Any thoughts on this? I didnt think it completely through as it just hit me the other day as I became mayor that I have a cantina that is taking up rpime space , but the owner is long gone and its been condemed. But i think there are some simple fixes here.

i like the idea too, but i have one question. Would the mayor grant acess to the house and the items inside or is the house going to be packed up into the city hall competly intact in case that player dose come back?

I ask both cuase if the mayor could get into the house they could use the stuff inside to generate money for the city by selling it on the forums or decorating stuff around the city (ya i know some mayors would be greedy and keep the money for themself). Now just haveing the city hold the house until the person comes back if they ever do and you LIKW

Well if the mayor went through the process of 'foreclosure' then ultimately it would belong to him/her with descretion to sell off or distribute for the needs of the city/guild. I suppose there could be an option to have packed back into the players datapad as well... But my feeling is ,if a person lets their house go into condemnation.. then hey should have forethought to either pay up to keep it from there or made other arrangements to keep their goodies.
