Thread: A few simple things to make cities more interesting
Here's a few simple little things that could be put into cities, or have to do with cities, that would make things more fun and interesting that I've been thinking about, that I don't think would take a massive amount of code. Some of them also help in solving some simple /citywarn issues.
1.) A white flag on a pole, made by tailors or weaponsmiths, equipable (in the weapons slot) by neutral players only. When (and I'm being hopeful that the Dev's will get their heads out of their hineys here) the /citywarn command is reimplemented, this would allow neutral players to display that they pose no factional risk to a town while travelling through, thus lessening their chances of being /warned simply for being a blue dot on the radar.
2.) Add a town mission symbol to Fiscal I, along with the Tourism listing. When advertising your town, for no additional cost, you can add either a Rebel, Imperial, Hutt (Criminal), Trade, or Roleplayer sybmol to the map next to your town name. Again, WHEN *snarl* they wake up and put /citywarn back in, this would give people a heads up as to what type of environment they are entering. Any factional symbol would imply that they may be entering a war zone, Trade would likely mean that anyone is welcome because they want business, and Roleplayer would imply that you might get warned if you don't stay in character.
3.) Add a flagpole decoration that shows the same symbol as the town displays on the map, for people too lazy for Control-V. ![]()
4.) Make a "Toggle City Boundry" option on Misc. Options. This would make the 900m radius glow faintly on the ground, so you can see if you are entering a controlled area. It could even be color-coded to the towns designation (see 2). Not only would you then know if you are entering a player controlled area for travelling purposes, but you'd also then know if you are inadvertantly joining a future large town and might be taxed.
5.) Make "Place NPC Cluster" a skill in Civics. This would drop up to five NPC's in your city with two able to grant NPC missions. The group would cost one fee to maintain for the lot (consider it civic wages).
Any other suggestions for additions? Please, don't put "streets" in this one or "cheaper streetlights", there's enough threads on those. ![]()

Great suggestions! I was just coming to the politician forum to see if anyone has suggested faction symbols by city names.
Thanks, Monthi.
Anyone else?
