Thread: Why /citywarn /cityban will have to be removed or modified
Let's take a real situation from Corellia on Eclipse server. Unnamed guild builds Imperial city right by the Imperial base on Corellia. If you want a good laugh they claim everyone else is camping the base, but they live across the water. Now they have a covert and overts wait for a rebel (or group of them) to start killing base troopers, thereby gaining a TEF. The covert then calls in the overts with the AT-ST's.
All well and good, you die and you go back to Bela right? Well not since they put in their new cloning facility, now you spawn right in their city. Somebody gives you an instant /citywarn *while you are still loading* (remember your body's there before you load in) and before you can get out of town you have a TEF. In the words of an OMNI member (another Imp guild) "That's *expletive* cheap, just like zone killing."
This is exceptionally bad because of all the decay you take now, not to mention the loss of faction points. Oh and the frustration of not being able to LEAVE because you are cloning there repeatedly. Nothing to do but LOGOUT and try later. Effectively they are removing you from the game, as you will never get away.
Now I do see another way out of this, it's called a clone menu that let's you choose the city. The bad thing about this is that people will use this (if they have no armor/shields or decay items) to jump around planet cheap. The only other option is to give freshly cloned players a five minute exemption from /citywarn and /cityban.
I consider what the unnamed guild on Eclipse is an exploit of game mechanics, not unlike those who sold small houses labeled as larges.

Simple solution to this is to make it that closest cloning fac is always an NPC city, unless you clone at the player city
not to handycap citywarn and cityban
It's already on Test Center that the cloning option will default to the nearest NPC city unless you have your data cloned at the nearest PRC city.

Lucifer K. Mullins your not thinking at all are you. All they need to do is put in faction cloning centers. If your the wrong faction you can't clone there. If you can't deal with city warn/ban I do beleave Barney online is do out soon.

Lucifer care bear, I can't agree more with Blind, and Make peace.
We have built an entire city on the premise of creating a Rebel Stronghold.
Oh well, there goes the entire basis for our self developed Role Playing FUN!
There has to be a better solution than merely wiping it. I agree with the previous suggestions regarding longer warn time, faction cloning centers, or "closer" cloning facilities.
And furthermore, why should a smal group of abusive greifers be allowed to control the direstion of the game development more than a whole lot of serious, mature roloe players.
Answer that one smart guy.
P.S. When does Barney on line come out agin Makepeace, I'll buy a copy for for Lucifer if he'll go do something that meakes HIM happy.

There is a much easier solution.
If you are banned or have a TEF warning you should not be able to clone in a city, even if you are stored there. You should defult to the next nearest city or an NPC city automatically.
Do this, and remove cities from POI areas or remove citywarn/ban from cties that encompass POIs and the griefing stops with citywarn.
Force cities to declare for a faction before they can place faction defenses and don't allow opposing faction to clone there will solve the covert scanning outside clone center griefing as well.
Again someone else who doesn't read an entire post before replying.
I gave an alternative to changing/removing /citywarn and /cityban. In your rush to condemn me you must have missed it young one. It was to allow you to choose which cloning facility you go to. That may be moot however as one person posted that on TC you (purportedly) default to the nearest NPC city. If that is not true then there will have to be a modification. What are people supposed to do? Let themselves die repeatedly or log out until the middle of the night and then pray?
Incidentally you must know very little of the real world as well. All laws are based on the worst-case scenario. How many people really use automatic weaponry? A small amount. Now of that small amount: How many use automatic weaponry to commit crimes? An even smaller group. Rules in life and in games are based upon the fact that a small group of people will attempt to circumvent rules and changes must come to prevent that. Why? Because if they are not changed that small group will end up destroying the game, or life, for others. They usually do this because in the real world they are impotent (read: powerless) and have some satisfaction in making others feel bad.
Oh and as to the "carebear" reference. I do not care that they "camp" the Imp base. Fine more power to them. Tagging a player with /citywarn so you can repeatedly kill them in a weakened condition in which that have no chance of defending against or escaping is simply an abuse of game mechanics. Do you like Zone-In killing? What's the point of killing someone who can't even defend themselves? There are a few players on each side of the GCW who have caused the programmers to institute a temporary non-combatant status to stop this.
Incidentally if you want pure PvP you joined the wrong game. This is a world of consensual PvP. What the unnamed guild is doing, however, is changing it so you can't make the choice. That is an abuse of game mechanics. Unlike others who may react more aggressively I do not counsel on removing them from the game, simply changing the mechanics so that they can no longer be misused.
