Thread: City Griefer solution

Okay, I've seen and heard the arguments for this many times over, and there is little new information being covered. As such, I'm not here to start a war or anything (Though, that's probably what's going to happen.) All I have to present is a possible sollution.

Concerning all the static cities, such as Coronet, or Mos Eisly, or whatever, isn't there supposed to be a 1km no build radius around the city? Why not do that with player cities? It would continue with the preset rules set forth with the rest of the cities in the game, and makes sense to me to transfer these same rules to the player cities. Has anyone else thought of this?

But what would that do? There's already the rule that city halls need to be 1k from each other . . . .

I like mayors condeming buildings with a 14 day timer. That way if a person sets up a city just to grief, you can vote him out.

Basically, what it would do is make it so you can't get those people to set up houses right on the outskirts of your city and wait for the city to expand and join without the need of zoning rights. The 1 km no build zone would prevent them from doing that.

I don't like the no-build zone because it makes an outpost that never grows blot out a lot more potential harvesting sites than it needs to. That's why I suggest /condemn -- it allows you control the territory _after_ you gain control of it.

Some amount of grandfathering is OK -- it works that way in RL too. But eminent domain allows a city to force a person to move their house or give up part of their lot, or even change the way they use their land. In the game the condemn function would do that.

Ahhh, good point on the many outpost, large stakes of land eaten up, idea. That there is enough to sway me to your side and in favor of the condemn idea. Or at the very least, something similar to it.

Hmm, erhaps if it wsa just a no-build zone out to the edge of the largest city size for the Player City (I think it's 500m radius). If that were no build, would that work?

But I agree, I think there should be a way to kick out rowdy people in your city, even ones who live there. Much like a Wookie would be banished from Kashyyyk if he were to ever use his clawns in a fight. There are plenty of reasons for banishment, and the condemn idea could help with that.
