I never saw this coming, but I need to understand if I've been hijacked or if you all might think this is normal and I should just live with it.
I have had a group of 12 buildings on dant minding my own business. There are several other buildings from other players I don't know. We are independent I guess as there was never a city there and we all co-exist happily (even tho I don't know or play with them). Now someone has come by and plunked down a city hall right next to us and claims us as his 'citizens' !! Is this an acceptable behavior of politicians or should he be burned at the stake?
I understand that our group of buildings would look attractive and instantly give a mayor a dozen new citizens to build his city - but it isn't fair in my book. I enjoy being independent and I was there first!!!!! (/stomps foot, hehe
I feel violated and feel trampled on. It doesn't seem fair that a politician can just hijack me like this and all I can do is bend over and take it. Not to mention that I do not see why I have to pay taxes for a city that wasn't there when I built my place. It will be nightmare to move and I don't want to - I love my place in the mountains on the water.
Any constructive help is appreciated.

I would say to get everyone together, vote the mayor out of office, then destroy the city hall if you really don't want to live in a city. I'm not sure if it'll do any good, but you can also try asking a CSR.

You got the shaft.
There were actually quite a few posts identical to yours when the first player cities came out, though I don't know what you can do to resolve the problem other than move.

Yeah, vote him out and kill the city... it will cost someone in the city 15 skill points, but it will cost this upstart mayor about 300k....
Granted he might be able to do it twice, but he is far less likely to do it a third time to the same group of people.
This is a blatant misuse of the system, and an insult to those of us who have spent well over a year planning a community (over six months of that prior to release). Hopefully, he gets the hint relatively quickly... I'm sorry you have to weather this.

OK, I see your points and you'all are mostly saying to vote him out. Not sure how possible it will be. Seems our neighbors have enjoyed our 'summer homes' and don't really know each other. And to organize a bit of a revolt AND get someone to train in politician might be beyond the scope. What a drag. I do appreciate your comments tho and I guess I'll have to figure this out. Thanks.
As a chef I now wish I could make poison for foods - it would be a nice 'house warming' gift, LOL

Good call MTolwyn,
This won't prevent taxation, but will destroy the city if their ends up being less than 10 citizens. So hopefully he doesn't catch on and begin moving people in really fast.
But yeah, this is an excellent suggestion, and you can revoke citizenship at the city terminal in the room on right in city hall.
