Thread: Proposal : for Mayoral resignation.
Proposal for Mayoral resignation.
Reading through these boards most novice politicians seem to have encountered this situation. You are a proud citizen of a well managed town with an active Mayor. Unfortunately the Mayor decides that he/she has had enough of the game and would like to move on. They announce their intention to leave the game and set about finding a replacement and "training" them up. They cancel their account and set about handing over the keys to the city.
The new candidate achieves novice politician and registers to run "against" the current Mayor. The city has 64 citizens so the new candidate needs 33 votes to assume control. Due to player attrition the new Mayor cannot achieve the 33 votes needed to assume control (even with the current Mayor voting for them). Most of these "empty " houses are stocked full of maintenance and are not likely to burn down in a hurry.
So we are in a quandary, the old Mayors account is about to expire and he is unable to hand over the reins to a new Mayor.
I’ve had a long think about how we could manage this and I’d like to get some thoughts from the other politicians, maybe even one of the development team.
All proposal assume that there are a minimum of two Mayors running in the weekly election, the incumbent and an other.
Proposal 1:
The incumbent votes for one of the other candidates running. By doing so he is endorsing this other candidate for mayor and removing himself from the running. He will be presented with a confirmation dialog stating that he will be retiring from the election. Any votes that are currently registered for him will be release and that citizen can vote again for one of the other candidates. The incumbent will retain all privileges until the end of the election at which point the mayoral duties will pass to the winner. If there is more than one candidate running the one that receives the vote from the current Mayor will be flagged as "Endorsed" to highlight that this person is the departing Mayors preference.
Proposal 2:
System stays as it is today, but the automatic votes that go to the incumbent Mayor are only counted if the player has logged on in the last fortnight. This is not the same as the 6 week rule which removes the player from the city headcount. All this effects is the right to automatically vote.
I’d welcome any comments as to potential problems and if/how this could be exploited.

I think the best option, and the simplist option, is to add an option to the ballot box that will allow you to remove yourself from the race so long as someone else is running. If the current mayor removes himself from a race, all incumbent votes will also be removed from the tally. Now the only situation I see, is what would happen in the case of a tie between two new comers, when the mayor has dropped out of the race?

I like your idea. I wonder if ..... the mayor has to vote for one of the two before he/she leaves. In the case of a tie, the mayor's vote counts as two. If the election were that close in the first place, the city might have a new mayor the next week anyways, so I don't see counting the mayor's vote as two being unfair. Besides, the mayor is usually (though not always) the main contributor as far as finances and time, and their opinion should matter some what ![]()
But please... give us a better way to resign!
Its only important for the big cities but were stuck at Village :/
Proposal 3 :
Allow Smugglers to Slice the voting termial and rig it so the new mayor wins ![]()
How about 'No' on proposal 3... ![]()
However, I like thefirst two proposals... in fact I like both of them a lot.
The problem with just one or the other of them is thatneither wouldapply in all situations. I have seen scenarios where mayors leave a city, but still play regularly and want to resign (maybe even go on to mayor for another city, like Riis), and I have seen city's where the mayor just vanishes in a puff of smoke, never to be seen again... Between the two of these proposals (if they were implemented) cities could be protected against inactive, and disinterested leadership, and mayors wishing to leave could avoid being greifed by a citizen-base who wishes to keep them in office.
This really is a win-win situation for all involved.
