I have been hunting around for some information about what a novice polititician gets that might make it worthwhile to put my points into until the day comes I might be mayor. Does a Novice P get extra lots over the original 10 they can use while waiting? Are there any benefits? or better to wait and not pick it up until I have a city to govern?

There is absolutely no benefit to training politician unless you are ready to become a mayor. It allows you to place a city hall and grant zoning rights. That's it. No player in the game can get more than 10 lots.

True, no new lots. Not real advantages for spending the 15 points and 500 APs.

That being said if you want to try your hand at roleplaying a politician, take the training, find a city that is looking for change and become a citizen. Let your ideas be heard and run against the current mayor. With enough support the city could be yours.
