Thread: Starting a new city in a populated area, what's your thoughts?

For some time now my guild has been discussing starting up a new city, but our main issue is that in order to have it where we would like, we would be forcing close to 50 other players to be a part of the city. With just our guild being the focus, we had planned to have no taxes other than a minor sales tax, and fund the city with the guild only. But because of the crowding, it will increase the city size and we'll face demands which only would make the expense too much for us. Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be appreciated.

If it moves, shoot it. If it shoots back, duck. If you can't duck, pray. If praying doesn't work, you're dead.

What planet are you on? Is it even possible to start a new city? Most of the caps have been hit that I know of. Also, even if you can start a city you may be stuck at level 3. So if you can afford Level 3 go ahead because the Level 4 cap may have been hit.

Also, being in a populated area will really limit the control you have over layout and placement, but it will make it easier for you to grow. If you can do it give it a shot, keep it minimally funded. If it looks like it won't work blow up your city hall. 400-500k on the deed is a lot, but not too crazy to lose if the experiment doesn't work.

The planet only has 9 shuttleports, and 11 cities on the map. The whole decoration isn't a goal, especially as it tends to be a wasted expense in most cases. The spot is where another city was that failed or the mayor just took off and ran or something.

Oh yes, I'd also like to point out, the deed is purchased already, we know there is room, the only issue is we don't want to upset anyone around and make them call the csr's accusing us of attempting to grief them. We aren't after money, we've set over 2 mill aside to cover the city for a while and make way more than that amongst our guild in a week easily.

First of all.....there's nothing forcing these citizens to declare residency. That means, while they may live in the city limits, they do NOT have to be citizens. If they choose not to be citizens, your city won't grow, and the land for people wanting to move in and BE part of the city will not be available.

Encroaching on these people is not only a foolish idea(in that you gamble to lose your chance at growth and will be terribly expensive,) but also inconsiderate.

You really should reconsider, and possible negotiate with these people BEFORE you just plop down your hunk of metal and ore.

Its not so much the griefing I would be worried about, its more the fact that those 40 - 50 other players may all get together and vote out your own Mayor. This will happen if you are a small guild of 10 or so people. once you drop the CH, you will automatically be in the minority if everyone in the city zone decides to declare residence - and take their revenge.

don't even think about it!

you will get voted out in a flash and make a bad name for your guild - assuming that the citizens declare residence - they might all decide not to be citizens and you will just be stuck with a city hall and no ability to grow or enforce law.

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas. I finaly got in touch with several of the residents in the area. And even though the city wouldn't cost them anything, many were still iffy, even though they knew at least someone who did business with us, if not one of us directly. So we are not going to burden them with this. Again, thanks for the help.
