Politicians need to be able to pave roads. Creating some roads (perhaps have several different types of roads to reflect the different city levels and environments) to show major lanes of travel help to organize a city and make it FEEL more like a city. Allow us to make roads and sidewalks, and let us fence in backyards around houses. Itd also be neat to have damaged roads, for cities that want to have more of a worn out lived in feel to them (which is a star wars trademark)

Placing roads as a design issue for the developers might be too time consuming even though it would add to the immersion of a city. I suggest it be made easier and more broad and simply have the entire city radius (like all the current static cities) paved. You can add some color with gardens and other city decorations (in this case they would probably want to raise the current caps on decorations so that you can spread them out a bit more).

I agree on roads. ANd i don't see how it would be a design issue, it's just changing a texture. I dont think it should just be PAVED tho, i think it shoudl be actual roads, like a certain width, whatever the closest between buildings is. This way you wont have ugly crap like a huge chunk of pavement with buildings placed randomly on it. That would be ugly.

This would be one thing that would actually make cities begin looking like cities... instead of just collections of houses around a big central building....

Couldn't they make this an Architect only skill that would only be placeable by Mayors? It would be much like gardens, except it's just the "groundfloor" part, kinda. They could just have different ground textures to choose from.

Also agreed... it doens't seem that difficult to me... give it more lax terrain restrictions than most structures.... make it simply a big flat concrete garden...
While most city improvements currently available are simply not worth their maintenance, I would have to say that streets would be more worthwhile than most... I really would like my city to start looking like a city.
If they could simply make the streets concrete squares with arches running in one line across them and then other peices of roadway that are used as cross-roads in effect we could do much with them and greatly improve the aesthetics of our cities.

Early on in development they had created a tool that would give the appearance of roads but it came out extremely ugly, so it was scrapped because they could not get it working in a fashion that was acceptable. The biggest problem is that the landscape is hard-coded and any long-term modifications cause an inordinate amount of lag. It's pretty much been stated at this point that we will not see any kind of road-making or terraforming.

Mayors should be able to place roads in their cities. Also, mayors should be able to edit the terrain so placing of housing is easier.
