Thread: Citizens of TWO cities arrgh!

So... my fiance and I left our city, picked up our structures, and moved out. We redeclared residency, and we became citizens of the 2nd city. Now we're residents of 2 cities, which makes no sense. Will the old roster eventually drop us? Our old city wants to do a friendly succession and we have to run all the way back to vote because otherwise the incumbent will win. It's a weird situation.

OK I think I've figured it out: and maybe someone will be kind enough to test my theory...

A city loses citizens only when a citizen removes the house in which he is currently a resident.

This is what happened to me:

Scenario 1: Citizen A /transfers residence in city X to citizen B. Citizen A then declares residencyin city Y. Citizen A is recorded as citizen of both cities.

Scenario 2: Citizen C is a resident of City X. Citizen C declares residency in City Y. Then Citizen C removes house (former residence) from City X. Citizen C is also recorded as a citizen of both cities.

If anyone can confirm or deny this theory, that would be incredibly helpful - this "bug" if repeatable presents a potential problem for a "numbers boosting" exploit. (As a side note, this was totally unintentional- we just wanted to leave the city and redeclare elsewhere).

Well... I did put down a house in player city 2 and did declare residence there. That works fine. I'm on the roster for city 2. The question is how do i get rid of city 1? Possibly I could put down a house in city 1, declare residence, and then rip it up, if that would even work. I don't think destroying my current residence will solve the issue.

As a side note, City 1 recently lost more citizens, so if I did take steps to remove myself from the roster, the citizens would hate me when their radius shrank and they might lose civic structures. That's why I'm reluctant to place and remove a house in their town.

I packed up, left the city i wasa resident of. Went to a different planet, placed a new house, not in any city and declared residence there. I am still a citizen of the city I left, getting taxed. Neither myself nor the mayor of the city seem to be able to remove me, anyone have any suggestions?

NJ65 and Ncya, one obivious solution springs to mind, but I doubt you'll like it. Destroy your current house and place a new one in the city you want to move to. I'm not saying to do it, but it would probably clear up the bug.

Well if your concern about your previous city out-wieghs the penalty ofbeing double taxed, keep things as they are now. However, it was good that you brought attention to this bug. I hope it gets resolved soon.

Actually this has happened to me as well. I picked up my house in a city on dantooine and moved into our new city on Tat and became mayor but I am still getting taxed for the onld city. I wrote a CSR ticket and the response was "This is a known issue, which we are trying to resolve" sooo at least SOE knows about it.

The old city had no taxes, so I don't really mind. However, if someone gets the bright idea to tax me, I'm going to be peeved.

As mayor of a city on Dantooine, I've had people leave and redeclare somewhere else and still get taxed...basically what has been described above. Nothing can be done about it as far as I know, /bug it or submit a ticket, but if the devs know about it, that won't really matter. Only thing that will work is destroying the city hall and starting over (don't reply that it's not fesible, I know...just pointing out how there is no way around it).

But since my city can't get the votes to vote me out after I have left the city and guild, I will be destroying the city hall, so no ex-citizens will have this problem any longer.
