Thread: Shuttleport Spacing?

This concerns Shuttleports in Player Cities.

We should have updated to level 4, and been able to place a 'Port. However, our cap on Starsider Tat has supposedly been reached (there are only 9 PC shuttles listed on the "schedule") and we were denied.

Now, my point is this.. not "sour grapes" .. but if you open the World Map, you'll see that the majority of shuttleports are clustered in the south quadrant, some within 2km of each other. I remember from some of the things I'd read here that a number of PCs were setting up close to NPC cities so they wouldn't need to have their own shuttleports -- but apparently city pride has kicked in, and we have shuttles on top of shuttles on top of shuttles.

Our city, Last Hope, has only 2 "nearby" shuttles.. Mos Wulf, nearly 12km away.. and Mos Espa, 5km away.

Neither of which is a short run.. thank the Maker for vehicles.

Now, I thought the point of PCs was to "settle the wilderness". Last Hope is 2km or so away from Ft Tusken, so we have tremedous toursism, and many people from farther flung areas would like to get here to take advantage of our Cloner and other facilities.

However, we have no direct access via shuttle.

(I put this much more elequently to the CSR Ticket system, just can't seem to cut and paste, despite remapping)

My proposal is, instead of limiting a city's growth, that distances between shuttleports be limited, similar to the current "1km between City Halls" rule.. although of course, shuttleport distances would be much larger. That way, the Travel System is better spread throughout the planet.. and the travel net would be less likely to overlap (and fulfills the concept of "settling the wilderness")..

And we don't have the idiocy of "Shuttle? Sure, which one of the 3 are you coming in on? Anchorhead, PC City One (1km away) or PC City Two (600k away from that) ? "

My 2 credits..

No feedback? Anyone?

oh. One-starred.

"You" don't think this is a serious issue? Or do "you" just have nothing better to do with your time??

.. Shuttleports should be more than spittin' distance from each other. . or it defeats the purpose of *having* them.

unfortunately any system is going to attract problems and people disagreeing with it. First in, best dressed, stuff the rest, is the SWG way....

My point is not so much "disagreement" .. which smacks of sour grapes.. but *improvement*. Since we're supposed to be settling the wilderness, what's the point of clustering transportation around *already* highly populated (and currently well-served) areas rather than spreading them out??

The "technology" exists to prevent this scenario with City Halls. Shuttleports should also come under this same restriction.

I'm not trying to vie to *increase* the amount of available shuttleports.. just that they should be spread out a tad.

Well ... the idea might have asured a fairer way of setting shuttleports or a better spreading out ... but it's just to late ... you can't change it any more.

Great idea if only player cities hadn't come out and the Devs were still coming up with the different rules for cities. However that isn't the case and the Devs would never change the system now because it would angry more people then make happy. To be honest I don't understand why so many cities are built in the area between Wayfar and Ancherhead other then the area being very flat and easy to build on and I wish Tatooine was a lot more spread out, but its not and you'll just have to wait for one of the cities to burn out or move to lvl 5.

<sigh> I know you're right...

But remember way back when - when the first cities were saying "I'm building just outside of <insert southern city here> because I'll have a ready-made shuttleport and most of the facilities I need are next door of <same NPC city>" ?

Apparently city pride got in the way. I see the need for the shuttle right outside of "Wafer" since they had nothing to begin with...

Take a peek at the World Map. . it's downright silly.

...gotta stock up on that steel.. since they're gonna need transportation once they get here...

Well we built our city there because at the time the servers where starting there was very noticeable traffic going through this area. People were running to Jabbas and to the Tusken Camp (not the Fort) for fun and easy XP. We were able to provide a pretty good starting ground for our merchants.

Only now do we really see the benifits of the flat building area of the lowland basin. Although I most admit that some cities on Tatooine have a much more beautiful surounding, there's nothing better for planing streets for a city with no restrictions.

Heh our city is very close to getting ashuttleport, now only to find out that the cap on shuttleports per planet is 9. This kind of sucks since the nearest player shuttleport for our city is 4km... and the closest spaceport on Dantooine is 6km.

Dantooine already hit the cap limit, and there's like 2 shuttleports on Dantooine that's pretty close to each other...

Man this really makes me upset. What even pisses me off more is the fact they didn't even mention about the cap... have to find out from another player on the msg forum. VERY poor communications, I hope they fix this cause it's pretty dumb period.

Yeah, the same thing happened to me on Ahazi. We worked our butts off to get enough people for rank 4 and I get an email saying we were denied expansion because there are too many large cities. WTH!!! If that's the case we should at least get the rank up and I'll take not getting any more land. I found this all out last night and I'm still fumed about it.
