Thread: Preventing a Hostile Take-over

We just started a guild and are getting close to starting a city. One of our new guildmembers is getting harrassed by his old guild. Apparently they have informed him that they will get "revenge" for his desertion, and will get someone to run for mayor in our town, get enough of their people in as citizens, get elected, and destroy everything in the city.

Is this possible? And if so, any suggestions as to how we can prevent it?

Am asuuming they will use alts, unknown to their former guildmate, in order to accomplish this.

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Enable zoning in your city. This will prevent anyone from placing a house (and therefore becoming a citizen) without permission from you or your militia. Grant your guildmates zoning rights so they can join the city. It's then up to you to interview potential new citizens to determine whether it would be appropriate to let them join you. Eventually your friend's former guild will get bored of trying to roleplay interesting people with a unique and fascinating reason to want to join your city (that has nothing to do with overthrowing the mayor several weeks later) and will go away.

I would add decide what tier level you want to achieve and then make sure that the dedicated people for you number 50% of the vote just in case they do sneak someone in with some cronies. Another idea (though some mayors may dislike this one), is ask for a couple of cross-server citizens to pad your votes in your favor. They may be a few politicians here that would help you in this because each of us know that this is the one of the lowest form of behaviors people do to grief player cities.

He can't prevent people from joining, the spiteful guild just has to build up around his current rank and get grandfathered in. The only true solution is to get screenshots of the threats, save the mails they send and log the tells they send as proof so if this does start to occur a CSR can just come right in and stop it. Beyond that you have no control really, but in all honesty I'd figure it is just an idle threat. They'd have to pick up their homes in order to do this or at the least some harvestors and that is item storage that most places need. Relax and enjoy the game and just be sure you have some damning evidence just in case.

one way to take over a city (with zoning) is when you grant someone zoningright for 24 hours and that guy place houses when you have left, then transfert them to other people who will declare... by placing houses that way,a city can be taken over pretty easily if the bad guy have enough people to help ...

So, when you grant zoningsomeone you don't really know well :

make sure to remove his zoning right just after he placed the house (with /grantzoningright again)

that way there is no chance the guy will place houses in your back
