Well, we've got people freaking about Mayors leaving the game and deleting their characters. So, once again, I'm leveling a little brainstorm at y'all.
There's a little check system built into most governments, where if there's a sudden loss of a person in the pecking order, there's someone under them to take their place. Why not try something like that for Player Cities?
Idea:
The first person designated as a Militia member will be the Militia Commander. He's got no real extra abilities EXCEPT, that in the event a Mayor unexpectedly steps down through deletion, he steps in and takes the Mayor's spot. He will have no ability to modify the city when he enters office, unless he is a Politician himself, and will be considered the incumbent in any future elections unless he's voted out. In this case, the next person down on the Militia list becomes the Militia Commander and is the next successor in line.
This system can be used as a safety net for established cities who suddenly become victim of a mayor losing interest and ONLY kicks in when a Mayor character is deleted unexpectedly. In most cases, a mayor who does this is doing so out of some level of hostility to the city in question and the city deserves protection, afterall, why should the citizens who own the city suffer the wrath of one individual?
This idea is not abusable because it only works in the event of a mayoral character being deleted. So for a mayor who still plays, the only way to leave office is via elections.
Again, its been stated over and over that cities belong to no one, yet there are more than a few ways left that Mayors can spit in the eye of that theory.Time for a second look at some emergency measures.

I think it sounds like a great idea. Maybe some Mayors who want to leave won't fell obligated to stay.
There is so much that can and should be done, but I've almost just given up hope
