Greetings everyone,
I don't want to disgrace anyone in this post, but when it comes to Voting and electing a mayor to office, there needs to be some checks/balances for the encumberant mayor.
1) Mayor allows another guild of players to move into the city to stack the deck in his/her favor.
2) Remove all Militia for the existing city so he/she can control the influx of new citizens.
Being able to do this during the election period really makes the challenge of running for office a waste of everyone's time. The only thing i see is his reputation if people caught wind of this, but what does he care, he has the city by the balls. How long can he sit there on top and taking portions of the treasury everyday.
I believe if the mayor has someone running against him/her,the mayorshould lose the ability to deny militia rights to the city. Since morals and the idea of reputation isn't a concern to obviously some.
There is no check/balances in place that we can adjust, the CSR's have currently said he is in his right to do this... in RL (lol) you have thousands of people watching your Mayoral decisions.... and you can get hung for screwing with the city in the worse case scenario.. (not condoning just a minimum possiblity)
Thank you CSR for your time in game where this could have been handled more professionally. Like i said before Morals doesn't seem to be in check here with this profession.

These are valid concerns and I can certainly see how they could be abused. I guess the only way to keep tyrants in check is to make sure they dont get elected in the first place. I went one step further and have made my Mayorial Toon accessible to more than just myself. I have a deputy mayor from another guild in town who has full access to the account. Between the two of us we have managed the town appropriately and make sure that all view points from all our citizens are appropriately represented by the actions of the Mayor. The mayor account, while my favorite toon, has become much more than just a toon to get people militia rights or zoning rights. It is a symbol of our town and has to appropriately represent the ideals that Aurora is founded upon.
I wrote the city-charter (with a TON of help from guild friends) and I make sure that I follow the charter precisely. Respect is the name of the game and I make sure I am respectful of others in my community and in this game. Unless you are an elitist, tyrannical, draconian Imperially aligned player, in which case -- well you need to be shot.
Cheers!
Hadrian

Mayors should be able to split the powers of militia between citizen protection and zoning.
Mayors, duly elected to the position, should not have limits on how they manage their city, because it is fundamentally their posession once they are in power.
My opinion.

Let me get this straight:
It is ok for the Militia to bring new citizens in to vote out a mayor.
It is NOT ok for the Mayor to bring new citizens in to keep him/her in office?
If i'm reading your post right, that's exactly what you're saying.
What you don't get, is that when in office, the mayor OWNS the city. For that 3 week period, the city is his/hers. The mayor may do with it as he/she pleases. If the citizens are not pleased with the way things are done in the city, you have 4 choices:
1. Vote the Mayor out of office
2. Move out of the town
3. Suck it up and just continue to live under that Mayor's control
4. File a CSR Harassment report (if the Mayor is using some sort of exploit, or some other illegal tactic to do what you don't approve of)
Those are your only options. If you don't like what the current mayor is doing, rally the citizens together for your cause, and oust the mayor. or move to another town.
just don't try to complain about the double standard you are trying to put into place, that i mentioned in the beginning of my post.

What I am saying is this, The mayor should be given a grace period where he can't DENY or REMOVE zoning rights to the existing Militia. A mayor shouldn't be able to remove the Militia on a whim. especially the last week before elections. I am not denying his ability to grant zoning, im asking he can't take Militia away without a 2nd players consent. of some sort.

Either way, it's a losing proposition. Lets say Imperial city "X" has a Rebel spy. Rebel spy makes friends with everyone and becomes militia. Rebel spy grants zoning to anyone they please to take over the city cuz the Mayor can do nothing about it. Now... old Mayor who has put a lot of time, credits, and effort to make his citizens happy, now has nothing to show for it. Everything is lost.
Not sure I like your idea.
