And people wonder why CSRs get so much flack...

I am the mayor of a small city on the Intrepid Server. The city was built and funded by me for my use and to host player events in. There has never been a tax and all the money for the city comes out of my pocket.

We were Rank 3 and had the Increased Mission Payout specialzation which costs 80k extra per week.

My guild started another city 3km away with enough space to hit Rank 5 (my city is in a mountain valley and would not be able to have more than 40 citizens), so slowly my little town has bleed down to Rank 2, which I'm fine with.

The problem is that the city is still being charged 80k a week for the non-working specialization.

I've filed multiple tickets and have been told that CSRs cannot remove the specialization. I understand that (though, I'm always skeptical when a CSR tells me he can't do something, a lot of the time it's just that they don't want to do something).

What I know they can do, which would make me a happy customer, is to check out how long I've been drained of 80k/week and put it back into the city treasury.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any luck with any solutions? I know I could get the city up to Rank 3 and turn it off, but I've been super super busy in Rl starting up a new business and have not had the time to do anything more than pop in to check my in-game email.

The thing I hate about CSRs is their canned responses and their pseudo-cheery "I hope you have a good day".

I've had a total of ONE good CSR experience and over 20 bad ones.

Sorry, venting...

this might sound really obvious, but just in case... have you try resetting the specialization yourself?

if in game CSR tickets doesn't work, try emailing [email protected]

I tried, but the city needs to be Rank 3 to change Specializations.

Thanks for the email address. I sent in a complaint to their feedback address, but not to their support, though at this point I have zero faith that that will work either, but it's worth a shot.

We're not all moving. Bohemian Grove (my city) is my home. I found a little valley tucked away in the mountains less than 2km from my oasis side home on Tat over a year ago. The town has a lot of history as it's the home of the little virtual empire I've built up. It's held two Groovefests (big big big parties on Intrepid) and is where all my stuff is.

I'm not moving. My post was more about the CSRs lack of commitment to making their customer base happy and helping to fix their in-game problems than anything.

I have a question: is the specialization "non-working?" I thought the skill was to change or upgrade to certain specializations? But if your city drops rank, does that nullify the spec? If that is so, shouldn't the city have no spec or have been auto-downgraded to a lower one? See what I mean? Not sure how to state it, sorry.

In any case, you wish to downgrade to a cheaper city spec or no spec, yes? If a CSR can't help with that, then the only option I see is to regain the rank toset acity spec and then turn it off.

From the Politician and Player City FAQ

Q: What are the different specializations and how do I get them for my city?

A:A specialization gives the city a bonus in some area for an increased cost in city maintenance. As a Politician gains skills, different city specializations become available for the Mayor's city provided the city is of sufficient rank (minimum of Rank 3). A city can have only one specialization at a time and may only be changed once a week (to take effect with the next city update). Once a specialization is put into effect, it remains until the Mayor changes or removes it. There are eight city specializations currently available:

I am going to state the programming in the game allows the mayor to add or remove a specialization based on skill and tier level of the city. Since your city is below the required tier level, you lost the specialization but are still being charged for it. Since you are below the required tier level, you cannot add or remove a specialization since the programming recognizes that your city does not meet one of the requirements. This is a programming problem and nothing that a CSR can do about it. Example: I working on master merchant so I place a entry fee to my house as a way to master the profession quicker. After I mastered it I began to remove the skills but I forgot to remove the entry fee to my house. I am unable to remove the entry fee because I don't have the skill to place one in the first place. CSR won't remove the entry fee either. Could be it is something they can't do or not allowed to do.

I think you may have just hit on the actual problem here, Kyrie. Thecoding is going one way, but not another (when it should).

The two things I would do is refuse to close the CSR ticket (you don't have to close it if the issue is still unresolved; unless you get a reimbursement every week you've had it happen or until they can fix it for you somehow I'd say it's unresolved) and also to /bug the issue every time the money for the specialization is removed from your treasury.Just because you've reported it to a CSR doesn't mean it goes to the people doing the coding. Give them more information than they should need. I always use the Guide to Bug Reporting that was featured not that long ago. Basically:

Character Name: [Your character name here. This is NOT your login name]
Galaxy: [Your Galaxy or Galaxies if more than one]
Summary: [A concise description, in one sentence, of the bug.]
Date/Time: [Date and time you last experienced the bug.]
Location: [Full coordinates, if possible]
Description: [Include a detailed description of the bug, what causes it or seems to, and any other information you can think of that might be useful to someone trying to diagnose the bug]
Repro Steps: [Step-by-step instructions, if possible, on how to make this bug occur. If you can't provide full repro steps, note this and provide whatever you can. Even small amounts of information can help.]

Hopefully you'll get some kind of solid information from the issue through the e-mail. Stick with one type of correspondence with theCSRs, though. If you just submit ticket after ticket or contact them about the same issue all over the place, they get a little mean sometimes.

I know. I have no idea if CSRs can turn it off.

What I do know though, is that they can replace the money that has been sucked out of the city treasury.

I understand how the system works and accept that CSRs are not able to fix it. My issue is that they won't reimburse the city for the lost money (something they CAN do).

Maybe you can also remind the CSRs that the did reimburse cities that had multiple updates only a few hours after each other (due to a local bug giving far to little time to raise the maintenance money through tax means) ... CSRs reimbursed my city with about 7 Million credits back then (they simply put it into the treasury and wrote me a note).

Just don't give up ... and always stay polite ... maybe somebody here has a connection to a really understanding CSR you could try to contact? (maybe changing the title of the thread a little to get attention that you have a problem with CSRs)
