Thread: Cheating The Tax Man
I've been following the discusion on Taxes and the problem with not being able to balance the budget.
I Have a question and a posible loophole regarding sales tax. Does the sales tax just applie to vendors. If it does not applie to person to person trade what is to stop all the high flying architects and droid enginers from seeling all their high priced goods via that method.
If the sales tax is at 20% they can save themself's a lot of money by just having a sign in their vendor saying to contact them directly.
Sales tax should be on all sales regardles of if they are through a vendor or direct.
Vendors are in the game for the sole purpose of making things more convinient for anyone. You can't always be in town to sell your wares, but your vendors can be.

I think it is very likely you will see people when they are on taking things (at least high priced items) off their vendors and selling via secure trade to avoid taxes... Customers will demand this if the tax is too high...
This is just one symptom of the overall problem - the player city system is not implemented in a good fashion. Sure there are sales taxes in real life, but there isn't an easy option to avoid those taxes -- when there is - like the internet - people often do avoid paying taxes by buying via the non-taxable method.
The same will happen here.
