Ok, I have read the FAQ and such, but I still havea glaring question. I made novice Politician, and was under the impression that the only way to gain xp was through winning elections. However, last night, when I picked up Novice Merchant, I suddenly qualified for and had enough xp for one of the first boxes in Politician. I haven't won an election yet. Can anyone give me an idea where that xp came from?
Thanks

You get experience for each citizen in your community -- 100pts/citizen. You get this each week when your city cycles for maintenance. I know this is in the FAQ somewhere.

Don't listen to Wastoid. Politician, while broken, was a blast. You will get 100 xp per citizen per week. Your city will update weekly. Did you start your city or take over. It sounds like you took over a city and may have run against an incumbent and got some votes in the one or two elections prior to you taking over the city. If you just started your city from novice politician, I don't know where the hell you got the xp from.

I did just run in an election, lost to the incumbent who has deleted her accounts. I guess the votes are what gave me xp. The problem is, as long as half or less of our 46 citizens don't vote, we're stuck. Same goes for our PA, and allegiances.

To clarify: You get 100xp per citizen who votes for you! Whether you win or loose the election is irrelevant, you still get the votes and you still get the xp.
What some people are doing is joining a city and getting their friends to vote for them so they earn xp, but not getting enough votes to win, and then when they've got the skills they want they get everyone to vote for them (if the existing mayor wishes to retire) or leave the city and start their own city.

This is the tricky part. I had to disband my city because we didnt have enough active players for an transfer. You many citizens are you lacking? I've volunteered before to create a toon on another server. Maybe some mayors or former mayors will help. I believe Empress Palpatine started a thread on this one.
