Hi Folks,

Just wondering how people are seeing activity levels. It seems to me the game has split into 4 games at the moment.

1: JTL

2: Ground Crafters

3: Ground PvPers

4: Jedi Grinders

None of those four realy have any real group activity so even though you may have a lot of citizens or pa members online at one time because they are spread out over those 4 groups it makes it hard to see real group or should I say server wide activity.

The guys in space you dont see, the crafters are out with harvesters or in their homes crafting, the pvpers are at the few cities dedicated to that style and the Jedi grinders are off doing their quests. Seems to make for a lonely looking world.

When the game first launched you were either a fighter or a crafter which made it much easier to get large server activity into any particular event.

You forgot two other groups:

* People who left to play EQ2.

* People who left to play WOW.

We've actually had a decent amount of people leave for both. But we've been able to keep our citizen count up (so far). The thing that sucks the most is that a ton of people who left and said they'd come back to try JTL have not come back. They're involved in other stuff now. I was really hoping for something of a revival with JTL bringing back former players, but it just doesn't seem to be happening that much.

yea groups 1 and 4 are very destructive for the game and comunity

at least with the old jedi grind you had to do many different jobs, also social ones

no grinding jedi means endlessmindless killing of critters on dathomir

while doing the old style by mastering 29 jobs i had a lot fun and learned a lot about the game and it s professions

now it s kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, get buffs, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, trade in the exp, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, killlllllllllllllllllll

Well JtL is great fun and they are truly away from it all up top but aside from that our town seems pretty full when the other 3 groups are online.

Our crafters are either alt characters in some of the guilds or seem to always be running around for no reason so they are either actually visible or on a combatant running around town going between missions or prepping for battle.

Our town is turning into a PvP hub for the world,or at the very least we have a good number of PvP'ers and 3 bases so it attracts some imperials. So these guys and I are either defending the town, spending an hour prepping at the town, or just a hop skip and jump away from town doing the circuit. Nothing beats Coronet, Theed, etc. etc. no matter how active your city so it is sort of a give and take relationship. I don't PvP much but it's always fun to do and always die defending my home.

For the jedi grind, most just do it on stormtroopers at a POI not too far from our town. It is a constant spawn of rebel outpost/base defending against 3 spawn areas of troopers and an AT-ST. Funner to kill humans then critters, you get FP so it is more rewarding (turrets to help defend the bases and get more PvP or just sell it for 80-100 cpu) and since you don't have to run around for it it's easier.

I haven't really just stood around in the town and seen how active we are visibly but even if it appears to only have a minimum of hustle and/or bustle that really isn't the case and knowing that is what matters most to me.

Of those who havent left the game, the vast majority of the city residents are in space almost 100% of the time. The FS/Jedi grinders are mainly off-world on Dath or Dant with the occassional crafter (all JtL base btw) returning to town occassionaly.

You are right Ishute, we are all playing 4 separate games at the moment with little connectivity between any of them.

As distracting as the 4 stated sub-games are, why would anyone want to spend their time in a player city?

The fun of initially building the city is short-lived for the population, and while many will still use their city as their in-game home player cities really offer little to keep players entertained. In order to breed any kind of life into a city the mayor, or other interested parties, have to work hard to build reasons for people to be there.

Right now, as politicians we are given no real assistance in creating content in our cities. What we manage to provide for our citizens is mediocre at best, with PVP elements or roleplayed banality being the only aspects to offer much interest to citizens.

There are certainly citizens in the game daily but they're all off playing their sub-game of choice. If we could get some tools to help feed our collective political imaginations maybe this is a trend which could be turned around.

unless you re crafter or another non combat class there s not much reason for you to stay in a city.

JTL adds space combat to SWG, which is something the Star Wars world needs to have. But it adds no roleplaying to the game. If you play JTL, you are just playing a space simulator which "disconnects" you from the rest of the (roleplaying) SWG world. That means now you combine two styles in one game, which is good, but you split people up. Add WoW and QE2 (and soon Matrix Online, later MEO) and you have the current situation.

Anyway, the game is still the best mmorpg available and has been able to keep a decent population. Maybe they could merge servers (I wish they do that, after sorting technical requirements out). And, in a few weeks, people will realize that JTL is just fun for a short while and go back from shooting ships up to the roleplaying style (JTL doesn't have much to offer, it's too repetitive).
