Thread: How about this Idea for helping a Mayor Resign..

Ok.. read lots of stuff on the forum not sure if this idea has been brought up or not. But just myidea about how a Mayor could resign and allow new Mayor to take over without too much fuss.

What I propose is to have an option on the City Voting Terminal that only the Current Mayor can access. This option would allow the Mayor to transfer all votes to another running candidate only. By doing this the Mayor can transfer even the non-active votes to the New Mayor candidate and thus give them the majority vote. At the next city update the old Mayor would be voted out of office and the transfer would take place. An there would be no real worry about someone coming in at last minute, which was basic reason behind current voting system.

Not sure about exactly what it would take since I have not seen the code for SWG myself but it must be possible since theyalreadyknow that a person is the Mayor of the city and can access other features only a Mayor can access. This solution would just add one more feature that is Mayor only.

It might be a good idea or not... but it seemed simple and the easiest solution.

Actually - I really like that idea.

And, I really don't see any negative sideeffects.

Well, just to clairfy, I think It'd be better if "This option would allow the Mayor to transfer all votes registered under their name to another running candidate only." This is just to prevent grief in real unlikely situations that may have been overlooked... Say X, Y, and Z are running for office... X is the incumbent, Y and Z are two politicians... The current standings are X:10 Y:40 Z:10. As you can see, the people really want Y in office... now if Mayor X decides to use his power, only his 10 votes would go to Z, still making him lose.. Just clarifying on the "transfer all votes"

Maybe to go a step further in case you have multiple people running against the mayer is to allow the mayor to unregister the votes that are on his name and not necessarly allocate them to anyone else. This would keep him from putting the votes to whoever he wanted instead of who the citizens want.

Example:

Mayor - 50 (auto votes)
Candidate 1 - 10
Candidate 2 - 40
Candidate 3 - 20

In this scenario the mayor could put his votes to who he wanted and thereby causing Candidate 2 to loose even though that is who the citizens want. What I propose is simply to allow the current mayer to unregister his votes and have the election decided based on the votes for the 3 candidates only and exclude the 50 from the current mayor. This would allow him to step down and the citizens to get who they want.

The only problem I would see with that is the way the XP is allocated. At the moment it's 100 pts per vote. If I were to give my say 40 votes to someone else do we give them 4000 xp along with it or would that be changed to say 5 pts per vote since that said person never really earned the votes?

Even if the XP just disappeared, I don't think people that have been waiting months to get out an old mayor would mind.

However this is done, it must be done and done soon! There are many many cities out there with plenty of active players that deserve to make their city work but that are dieing for the lack of an active Mayor.

Come on devs. It's your rule that's screwing our cities, not our fault.

I would say the simplest idea would be that if a Mayor resigns, then no one automatically votes for him. From that point on, until a new Mayor is elected or the current Mayor changes his mind, only the votes from people who actively voted would count.

This would solve the potential for an outgoing Mayor to shift the votes to someone the people don't actually want, and allows a Mayor to quit relatively easily as well.

Nice idea, That way it wouldn't be like passing on the sovereignty to another. This way it's more vote based.

This is very similar to the "incumbency transfer" idea I have been proposing. Basically, it just moves the "incumbency" flag to another candidate (a very simple database change), so that during the next city update, when the votes are tallied, all the incumbent/inactive/non-voted votes go to whomever this was assigned to.

Currently? Absolutely nothing.

The only ways in the current system to stop being the Mayor are to remove the City Hall (thereby destroying the city) or get voted out. Nothing else works.

I posted these options a while back, feel free to discuss and rip apart

Proposal 1:

The incumbent votes for one of the other candidates running. By doing so he is endorsing this other candidate for mayor and removing himself from the running. He will be presented with a confirmation dialog stating that he will be retiring from the election. Any votes that are currently registered for him will be release and that citizen can vote again for one of the other candidates. The incumbent will retain all privileges until the end of the election at which point the mayoral duties will pass to the winner. If there is more than one candidate running the one that receives the vote from the current Mayor will be flagged as "Endorsed" to highlight that this person is the departing Mayors preference.

Proposal 2:

System stays as it is today, but the automatic votes that go to the incumbent Mayor are only counted if the player has logged on in the last fortnight. This is not the same as the 6 week rule which removes the player from the city headcount. All this effects is the right to automatically vote.

Proposal 3 :

Allow Smugglers to Slice the voting termial and rig it so the new mayor wins
