Currently, there really are no benefits to being a Metropolis other than in name...you don't get any subtantial bonus over Cities other than you can have 3 more trainers, 3 more terminals, and some more gardens. A lot of these ideas have been probably discussed at one point or another, but I think it's good to have a list of ideas (even if the DEVs rarely/never read this forum). Honestly, I feel that running a successful Metropolis is a very difficult thing to do, and there should be substantial rewards to doing so. Some of these ideas can also be granted earlier than Metropolis/Master Politician.
- Double Specialization. I know something like this was in the original design, but for some reason it never was put in. Rather than having the "bundled" specializations, just allow the Mayor to select two specializations. That way you could be, say, an Improved Job Market and a Research Center. Requires Metropolis and Master Politician.
- Bazaar. Allow Metropolises to place a Bazaar Terminal. This is probably very technically difficult, but it could perhaps be a simplified Bazaar in that you could only search the contents while in that particular city...and it would not be linked to the other Bazaars. Requires Metropolis and Master Politician.
- Docking Bay (for JTL). It's not a standard Starport in that there are no shuttles that run. However, players can take off and land their personal spacecraft from the Docking Bay. Requires Metropolis and Master Politician.
- "Law of the Land." This ability allows the Mayor to attach a short message that is displayed in the system message when entering the city. For example, you could have a message like: "You are entering Ataxia (Metropolis, Improved Job Market) - No fighting allowed." Requires City and Civic Policy IV.
There's some ideas to get it started, hopefully we can compile a nice list!

Make it into one of those new forms and it might get noticed! Good stuff!

My A-number one suggestion: Make Cities able to be faction aligned!
Another is this:
Some sort of voting process which mayors are allowed to participate in that would influence planets' policies. (I.E. The devs create a weekly policy vote for each world. If policies swing too far in the direction of one faction, the other faction responds by sending powerful NPC troops to said planet. For example, if all of the votes on Corellia supported Rebel activities, they would start seeing nova troopers.)
These policies could be one way of connecting ground and space. A Policy Vote could be something as simple ascreating atax on certain goods. These goods would then be considered contraband, and thus if you were carrying them, you would have to either pay a tax when landing on a planet, or attempt to smuggle those goodsonto said planet.
Eachvote should have both positive and negative results for each faction (with the positive outweighing the negative for the winning side of the vote of course).
To prevent stagnation, the weight a politician's vote carries should be based on several factors.
* The number of citizen's in that mayor's city.
* Faction aligned cities get a x1.25 - 1.5multiplier on the weight of their vote.
* The overall Imperial to Rebel ratio on said planet. (so that both sides are equally represented, regardless of howoutnumbered they are) The idea is to have a very close vote every time, so that it takes some sort of campaigning to achieve a desired result.
* If a vote reaches a stalemate between the mayors, then there would be a referendum, where the entire populous of that planet would be able to vote (your residence would have to be declared on a planet in order to vote there)

Double specialization was in., but bugged so because they did not have teh time to fix it they took it from the master box so thats why our master box is empty.
I've been asking them to fix this, and it's one of my priorities from the politician issues.

Maybe someday they'll actually fix it
I hope they consider docking bays for the ground/space integration...it could be a great boon for Metropolises to have players be able to take off and land from their city.

Personaly I think Metropolises (cant spell sry bout that
) Should get like Faction Security Systems...Like Hidden Turrents or Turrents who auto attackBANED players from citys!
And whats up with this... i herd theres a command to use shuttleports in player cityies ur baned from!
FIX THAT!
Or personalized plags on top of civic structurs and maybe a city benches and tables so uc an put tables and stuf foutside a cantina to make it feel homeyer (cant spell again)
All of this at the metropolis rank o that theres is a more meaningful thing to be a mertopolis in stead of 50m in all directions of land!
I got many more ideas but alot are kinda stupid

It would be interesting if Metropolises could be involved in Planetary Politics...that's something I've thought about, as well. Ultimately, though, I have never been able to come up with viable policies that could be seton a planet-wide level. Also, from a continuity standpoint really only a few big organizations (like CorSec) were granted limited independence...the Empire would not really allow the populace to control say, Naboo.
