Well, almost tax free friday.

I zero'd out all the taxes for the city of Aurora last night -- thursday. My intention is to see if they will reset themselves after a city maintenance cycle which occurs around 630pm EST on Friday for Aurora. One problem arose. If I dropped the shuttle fee to 0 the shuttle disappeared from the terminals in other cities. People could still leave Aurora, but nobody could buy a ticket to Aurora from another city. So I reset the price at 1cr. The citizenry of Aurora was happy to see a tax holiday -- even if it is only for a day.

I know that my city is running at nearly break-even. Has anyone considered placing taxes that collect the week's tax revenue quickly each week, then removing the taxes for the rest of the week? My thoughts on the new taxes for Aurora are that I will set the property tax at 15%, income at 2k, sales at5% (since we think it is the least reliable) Garage at 15%, Shuttle at 250. When revenues reach the 500-600k mark I will zero the taxes out for the remainder of the week.

The perception of there not being any taxes for some portion of each week is an interesting thought.

Good idea? Bad idea? Am I freaking nutz and should return to my cell inside the city hall?

I gave up and set all taxes to 0. I count all the people in my town as freinds and I really didn't want to see their hard earned cred go into a black hole.(Not even to test to see if the taxes are working)I support money sinks...but one should at least getsomething out of it. I would rather hunt and pay for the city myself than see people's money eaten by waisted like that.

Ok so here's what I did in Mos Ari on Tatooine. I hadeverything set pretty highexcept sales tax (its pointless really and only makes pricing items a fiasco when trying to remember that sales tax is included--too much headache lol)

property tax15%

garage fee 15%

shuttle fee 150cr

income tax 2k

We teetered on bankruptsy (sp?)for awhile in the begining and then had several *very* generous donations (Im still not sure who did it lol) to where our treasury was up to about 4 million....

well....eventually I noticed that the city wasnt making enough to maintain itself and everyone complained at the weekly meetings about how much money they were pouring out into the city. So I told them every week how much money we had in the tresury, how many *active* citizens we had, and how much it cost in weekly maint to run the city. They soon saw that the city was heading downhill quickly .

At the urging of a handful of citizens I did the unthinkable. I put my trust in these wonderful friends that I had made, and in the hands of people I had just met. I removed taxes!

Thats right.....Mos Ari is now TAX FREE!!!! The only fees we have are a 15% garage fee and a 150cr shuttle fee. Our treasury depends TOTALLY on donations. At last week's meeting we had soard over the 6 million credit mark in the city tresury

But my citizens know that if donations stop, and the tresury gets below 4 million I will reinstate taxes and jack them all UP!
