last week in politics

a girl can really get used to this "delegating" stuff... it freed me out of a LOT of unnecessary emails, and I'm a lot less stressed so now I have (even) more time to push for various politician issues and stuff... like watching food network O.o I strongly encourage people with huge cities and some trusted friends to delegate some of their tasks, it saves your sanity

the city is doing well so far. our treasury can handle the "no sales tax" thing for a while, so I'll let the city run like that for a few weeks. a militia member already took care of our merchant tent issues, so there are no urgent issues in our city right now. it's a pretty relaxing week relaxed is good, since I've been a ball of stress even after summer break started. so NU is running fine and dandy, and my citizens are currently content.

I won't be around this weekend... I'll be at the garlic festival with boyfriend and Tiaga I'm also going to be at the corr summit next month, although don't msg me personally with any issues that *you* want me to talk about (see this thread for the results of anyone who bothers me in game with personal issues) I am aware of all the politician issues, and none of them really relate to combat directly maybe I'll talk about militia issues... we'll see

so how was your city this week?

Since people started quitting when the Jedi started being everywhere, and i then turned it into a one man Lot Traded town and Mining Complex....just fine. Lvl 2 city and thinking about growing.

They run much smoother now that all 5 PAs that made it up have quit..including 60 of my own PA who are now playing various other games.

Thx for asking.

Bah sorry..that was really quite a troll post and you don't deserve it.

I would edit it if it wasnt that case tho.

I simply cannot let the first player city placed on LOK on Lopwca die so easily...Wish i could its getting expensive to maintain all by myself. (it used to be a lvl 4 city...as houses poofed i started adding lottraded folks to get it up to at least a lvl 2...for assurance reasons)

Vodo-Siosk has hit the century mark, and I could not be happier with this. We are the largest rebel city and second largest city on Dantooine. The community in the guilds is growing internealy. One of the new guilds in my city is growing rappidly, as my guild's active population is increasing. We had one person appear who we had not seen sice the city was founded, its nice to remminiss about the "old" days. I am trying to figure out a way to bring the 5 guilds of my city together. and are both very active and i'm hopping the new chat features make it easier for people to use city chat and increase interguild communication.

A citizen of ours placed a Imperial Detachment HQ to use as a faction farm. This both brings rebels andImperials to Vodo, increasing travel to Vodo signifigantly. As a result of this increased travel I was able to remove the sales tax, in an effort to make the 2 malls in my city more competitive, If residents gather enough faction to place a rebel detachment HQ we might turn parts of the city into a GCW battelfield. With the GCW revamp moved it might be a popular attraction on the Eclipse server.

-- This week in Aurora --

General News:

Aurora continues to grow. We are forced to delay the reporting of the 2nd Aurora all-citizen survey due to the Mayor being overrun by real life work responsibilities -- yet again. This time the mayor was seen jumping a transport for the far off city of St. Louis, MO.The Mayor has promisted to get some preliminary results out asap. We continue to maintane a general population level of 110 citizens with an average churn rate of 1-2 citizens each week.

The community looks forward to the re-establishment of a rebel military presence within the boundries of our city. We have completed our Base Defense Wall, and are actively working to ascertain the best date to place new bases.

City Mall and Merchants:

Aurora has identified an area of our community where we are placing some merchant tents. This area will grow with new merchants. Currently we have a new merchant tent area now has three merchants selling their wares. There is a master weaponsmith, master chef, and a master tailor in this new area of town. The mall continues to house the majority of our city's vendors, however.

The Aurora mall offers high quality products, at low prices and is only a 1 minute ride from Moenia, or a quick shuttle trip through the Aurora Shuttle port. The vendors are restocked every few days and the city is seeing a steady stream of customers to our citizen's vendors. With such great vendors asJor'ans Resources,Boceifus's weapons, Woseu's Armor, Cuk's Food, Ackac's Droids, Hadrian's Deeds and Furniture, Agoln's Meds, Yhaigs Clothing, and all the numerous miscellaneous vendors, Aurora is able to offer high quality goods and products at low prices. The mall is on the western edge of town and is currently undergoing some redecorating efforts as we refine our look and feel to better suit the shopping needs of our customers.

City Finances:

After yet another manual auditing of the city finances, the Mayor has decied to zero out all the city;s taxes, wait for a maintence cycle/reset then turn the taxes back on. We expect that the sales tax will disappear as it is the least realiable of all the taxes the city imposes.

City Governance:

The City Council is due to meet this Thursday evening. Also there are rumor about the development of a city-wide "Do not target" list for bounty hunters that live in Aurora.

City Event Guide:

Finally, several guilds are continuing to run weekly hunts out of Aurora. BOTD and E-Den have standard hunting nights and all folks are welcome to join them. Check out the discussion groups at www.swgbotd.com.

That is about all that is happening this weekin our great community.

Dear Pappi: (Yes, I want to use this format)

City of Rauha, Naboo (Starsider) is proceeding apace. We are about to lose a few more citizens, so I've been advertising and recruiting like mad. We're keeping abreast of people leaving the game so far, but it's going to continue to be tough, since a lot of people are also gone for summer vacations, or just plain going outside and enjoying the weather. Which is fine - we'll keep truckin'.

Our election is going slowly. The new mayoral candidate is getting less than 1/3 of the votes, even though we have 50/70 active citizens. Getting them to go in and actually VOTE is a pain in the butt, and I'm about to start a nag campaign just to get them to do it. I hate nagging. From the conversations I've had with people, the lack of voting is NOT resistance to the new candidate, simply because they all understand our current mayor wants to leave office, to the point of cancelling her account at some point (argh). So...we'll see.

We've also got big plans to revamp our commercial area to better accomodate a more social atmosphere. Unfortunately, we can't do that right now cuz our current mayor is inactive. Hopefully, we will get the new mayor both skill boxed and voted into office, so that we can really revamp the city layout. We also hope to attract a few groups of very high-profile merchants into town, but we'll see how that pans out.

After having placed a very succesful mall near theed, me and my partners decided to move our city from the wilds of naboo to right behind my mall.

We are now the closest city to Theed starport only 1750m.

My vision is a city close to theed that players new and old can run missions, train, hang out in a cantina, Craft from +40 stations and as you move up in your skills or while you are just out here you can shop in a fully stocked and interesting Mall.

Also the City Hall is converted into a Museum of Fine Art and Rarities.

City Of Sleepy Hollow Talus-Eclipse

Well we got to our mark of 10 people from placing our city hall. This is a brand new town I decided to start. I hope to hit rank 2 by our update we are at a strong 13 right now with 4 more joining today.

Taxes....... Should be no taxes in my town except the travel fee which is bugged at 100 credits and we dont have shuttle yet so not worried about that.

City Layout...... Complete Autocaded City with street names involving in-game materials such as Jawa Road,Jabaa Court,Soon to have Tusken Ave I spent a total of 4 hours autocadding my town.

City mall..... Hope to have it up and running within a week from today i am currently running a bunch of new stuff to add to my vendors.

What it takes to get in my city.....Well as of right now I accept just about anyone. With a good attitude behind them that is. I am always looking for new citizens. The only requirement is i lay your home and name (names must stay as I put them) and transfer it over to you. Penalty for changing name asked nicley to let me change it back first offence. Second offence is fine ( if you dont pay this fine your asked to move) What happens if you dont move. I enact taxes and will get my fine money weekly. As it will go to city hall this is ok helps maintain my city.

My current skill lvl.... 1/0/1/0

I hope this city turns out to be a good one i have been in this since beta and this is my first time trying this out so lets hope it is a good growing city..

Tsayad of Rori, Gorath

Well we almost replaced our awol mayor last night. Fell 3 votes short. Had our duel citizens and deleted citizens not been on the list we would have won last week. Trying again this week...and each week until we do it. On the upside FozzyOsbourne, my mayor wanna-be, is getting all the politician skills he needs when he gets in office.

The city has only 1 real guild in town, Phoenix. We have the remains of another guild and a 3rd guild that was invited in to bolster numbers..which are mostly 2nd server people.

Tsayad continues to grow and consolidate. Despite our need for new citizens, we have become more selective about whom we accept. Too many people just take and run.

Greetings from Dohrian!

Well our city has had a hard time lately but things are looking up. A rebellion that occured awhile back taking many of our citizens with it has faltered and there's a possibility that the new guild they formed will come back to Dohrian so this will get our citizens back up.

We are currently looking into forming a city council. I've posed the question to the citizens and have received a little feedback already. I think this will help the city and bring awareness to myself as to what the population is wanting.

Treasury is still getting lower but this may be because of lower sales and possible broken sales tax (haven't had time to test it)

Trade-Sec (our security force) is growing and managing to keep the peace.

The Crazy Roba cantina is booming as usual on Friday nights. So much so that I'm thinking of having a regular open mic night sometime during the week. Maybe Wednesday?

So come on by Dohrian (east of Daeric on Talus in the Gorath sector) and see what we're all about!

Sincerely,

Mayor Acantho

Hello Pappi,

Sad news from Elysium, Corellia Starsider.

Our mayor needed to cancel his account to SWG, and is having difficulty in returning to the game. Elysium was one of the first cities on Corellia from last November 2003 when they became a game feature. Before that period for a quater of a year we were like so many others an informal player settlement in 2003. The city was in concept / planning around phase 2 of SWG before going Gold.

Tonight our next city cycle lapses and with that the city will be going bankrupt at city rank 4. We have currently 70 citizens, where at our zenith we had 112 about nearly 3 months ago. Our citizen count swelled artificially with ghost citizens to prevent a splinter group from committing a coup d'etat. Using this tactic for the original civic leaders has been a mixed blessing that worked in the short term, but failed us in the long-term.

I'm reporting as one of the veteran junior supporters to the city from way back to just after it's inception in 2003. I'm the current hospital owner, and i'm part of the militia.

I hope after JTLS goes gold, and the combat & GCW revamps occur that the player city feature set receives a much needed overhaul sometime in 2005. Otherwise the prize joy of SWG of being a deeply social MMORPG will tarnish somewhat with nagging issues facing all politicians and player cities in-tow.

Thanks again Pappi for advocating and representing politicians and player cities.

The Lost City, Naboo on the Lowca server is doing great. We are approaching 150 citizens and wegrow weekly if not daily. Despite having about 30 active militia our city is rather organized. We have an indiustrial park with about 40 factories in it. We have 2 merchant areas and we just opened a medium house to act as a mall. We have no taxes and run exclusively off of donations. Our treasury goes up each week instead of down. We have 6 guilds sharing the city and another thinking of joining it. I try to send out bi-weekly "newsletters" to the citizens keeping everyone informed of what is happening in the city.

I hope for a few additions to player cities sometime before the end of this year. Namely, starports with JTL, bazaar terminals, the end of city ban, ability to add spynet npcs so the bounty hunter terminals are worth having, city generated income actually going into the treasuryand possibly a city chat tab added. I came from UO and we always wished we could form a city. When SWG announced during beta they would have player run cities I knew it would be fun. I was right

Our city was not always this prosperous. There was a time when my old guild I was in ran things and was the only guild in the city. Only the mayor allowed placement. When the guild disbanded we almost lost the shuttle. We had to go through an extremely hard 2 months of taking over mayor. We also didn't know how we were going to pay for it. I buckled down and my architect business took off. About 5 of us decided to turn it around and we formed a new guild and it took off. At first I was paying for it by myself but then people started pitching in. The old mayor let one of us have zoning rights and with the power of our guild numbers we took the city over. Life is good now but that can always change. I guess the thing to do is enjoy while it lasts.

The entire metropolis of the Lokian Abyss stretched out beneath him as he hovered high in the air above. It never looked so beautiful! A giant "T" was formed by the commercial district with the shuttle port almost at the point where the two wide streets intersected. Newer northern housing districts balanced out the city's original housing to the east and west. The industrial section across the southern river was bustling with factories, harvestors and laboratories. The city was glowing slightly from all the neatly arranged streetlamps.Buildings wereall even and consistent, with large and unique gardens accenting the central square and main streets of the commercial area.
The citycame into sharper focus as hemoved in for a closer look. Citizens and visitors shopped and congregated around the metropolis. The city never looked so busy, so alive. He noticed a blurry section on the eastern side of town that he didn't know. There was something odd about it. The housing was different and the activity there was more intense somehow. He was drawn to it. He wanted to know so badly what it was that was going on in the eastern side of the city, but the closer he got the blurrierthe area andthe people in itseemed to get.

Without warning, he gained altitude at an alarming rate. The whole city became smaller and smaller the farther up he went. He felt a great sense of fear in the pit of his stomach and just when he thought he couldn't stand it anymore the city began to rise to meet him. The ground underneath was pushing the whole city up towards him as he leveled off at what seemed like miles above. He still couldn't see what the activity and construction was at the east side, but the city was definetly moving up and up, and it began to glow brighter and brighter the higher it went. He couldn't look directly at it anymore it was so bright. As he turned his head toget away fromthe blinding light coming from the city, all his feardisappeared and a great sense of peace overtook him. The shining city was so close now that he could almost touch the ground in front of the city hall with his feet. That seemed like a good idea, but just as he was about to land, Nazz awoke with a start.

He was sitting behind his desk in city hall with the new plans Steve Donos hadsent himshowing a commercial and housing expansion for the north end of thecity still projected from the 3D display unit.He must have fallen asleep while reviewing the brilliant design. It had been a busy week that was for sure. He didn't think he was that tired, but what a dream that was! A vision almost. A vision of the Lokian Abyss and what it could become.

This week he had performed his first wedding, led the city on the largest group hunt the city had ever done, finalized plans for the northern expansion with Steve, and got the 100th citizen settled into the city. All along, moving a house here and there to start to clean up thestructures in the original housing districts. He must have been more tired then he thought to nod off in his office like that. The dream still echoed in his head as he got up, saved and turned off the display. He had to get home and sleep in his own bed. As he turned off the lights in the city hall he could almost see the shining city again like it was in his dream. He couldn't help but see the city projectected on the real stucutreshe passed in his AV-21 speeder on his way back to his home across the river. There was a lot of work ahead to get the city like the one he was shown in the dream, but Nazz figured that was whatthis was all about. Having a vision of a community then endeavoring to make that vision real.

The Lokian night was chilly enough to shake the last remnants of the dream from him; for now at least. Something told him that the dream was was somehow prophetic. As he gotto his Tatooine style home and stored the speedersomething elsebroke through from the dreamto him. What was it that was blurred out on the east side of the city? What were all those people doing so frantically? As hegot insideand settled in for bed, it occured to him he would have to wait and see for himself when the time was right; when it was his to know. Then Nazz Ar'Khandrifted off into a deep, dreamless sleep knowing that tomorrow was another day as mayor of the Lokian Abyss with all the twists, turns, trials, and triumphs that came with the job.

The Lokian Abyss, located on the Abyssal Plains of Lok (Starsider) is proud to announce it's 100th citizen! We are very fortunate to have only 8-12 inactive members and three unique guilds (HALO, WLP and RogSq) participating inour community. It has been an eventful week with the emotionaly charged wedding of Kyysh and Piah Moonshadows starting things off right. We also continued the tradition ofa city hunt to raise funds for the treasury, keeping our taxes low and our citizens feeling like they really are giving something back to a city that cares. You can't buy that kind of thing at auction, let me tell you. The new development of an expansion to the north, and the placement of our first theater (Droid fights and guest concertscoming soon!) really created a feeling that the city is going somewhere. The week ended withmy old guild mate from Ordell's Dirty Dozen (ODD), Bareth Sandman, becoming the 100th citizen of our metropolis.

This all feels like the beginning of something special, so please feel free to come to the Lokian Abyss on Lok (Starsider), stop by the visitor's tent for a quick reference to the locations of our city's vendors, and send me a tell or email with your comments, questions, or if you need anything. We are a communityby the players, for the players! The LA is a great place to live, a fun place to visit and a good place to shop. I hope to see you soon and may the force be with you!biwan:
