I'm somewhat new to posting but I do a lot of reading here.
Since my charactors are having a lot better income, I decided to completely alleviate sales tax. When I took it down from 5% to 0% the prices remained taxed.
So I put it back to 5% and the vendors acted as though it was 0%. I changed it once more from 5% to 0% and it seems to be working good now. I will have to wait and see how it behaves on the next server reset.
Not sure but probably sure most of you have done this or figured out other means. In case you didn't, this was my two cents.

my city doesn't have sales tax, so I can't test this myself... has anyone tried this? if it works, it's not a bad alternative since I don't think the sales tax thing will be fixed any time soon

The problem with the sales tax is that the city hall isn't recieving the money not that item's are not showing as being taxed. Have you actually tested to see if the city hall is getting the money?

You probably could test the tax with just an e-mail notice to stop any over reaction

Sales taxes showing on vendor prices is kinda wonky.
If you screw with it, current items that are listed won't update their "tax" amount until server reset.
Newly placed items will show the new tax value.
In either case, both cases, tax still never goes into the treasury.

Pappi, think you citizens could tolerate tax for a few days to allow you to screw around with it and see what results you get? ![]()

well, if he's talking about how the sales tax doesn't show, then there's no need to test

Ok I did as Pappi suggested and purchased something on a vendor in my city.
Before I purchased it, I checked my cities treasury and it was $53,675. I purchased a $5,000 item, went back and checked the treasury and it was still at $53,675.
So it looks like maybe this is a solution to what you guys are experiencing.
Hope it works well for everyone else.

Huh? How is not seeing any increase in the treasury when you buy something a solution to Sales Tax not putting any money in the treasury? *confused look*

Because the original problem was not money being put into the treasury. Rather, sales tax was still in affect while it was off. Understand?
And if I turn it back on, money goes into the treasury fine. Maybe the dev's fixed it.

Let me see if I'm understanding you correctly, cause in your original post younever said you turned the tax back on.
You had a Sales tax in place. Sales tax was appearing on items, but when an item was bought, no money went into the treasury. (This is the key issue here, and the bug most people are complaining about.)
You turned off Sales tax. Set it to Zero. When buying an item, no money went into the treasury. This is as expected.
You turned Sales tax back on. Raised it above 0%. Now, when someone buys an item from a vendor, the tax correctly goes into the City Treasury.
Is this correct? Also, how long did you wait in between each step, as I'm fairlyconfident that server restarts have some effect on how these taxes are displayed and collected.
Thanks for the info, just trying to work out the exact steps you followed in full detail so more people can test and see if this is a valid workaround for fixing the problem.

This along with everything else is seriously ruining this game, but that SOE arent fixing the biggest community projects in this game when it lacks any sense of community outside guilds and cities just surprises me non stop.

Ive tried turning on an off sales tax several times, even waited for the server to cyle still no sale tax went to the treasury. Atleast I get money from all the flaming swoops out there.
