Thread: Multi guild city
Mos Tyrenia has 3 guilds in it. The Tyrena Rebels which I am a member of, and we are the founding fathers of the city, about 60 members. Then two smaller guilds EOD and MOC, both of which are under 20. Things have been great, having the other guilds adds to population, and you get a wider variety of goods being offered.
However, there can be hiccups:
1. We set up our retail area around the shuttleport. It is well developed and full of vendors. The other guilds are more than welcome to put in merchant tents or a house for a shop. However, MOC has their own little enclave, Knights Square. They would like a 2nd shuttleport in their part of town. This is a big can of worms.
2. Competition, typically I think it is great. Everyone gets a wider variety of goods, and better prices. For the crafter it can be annoying since they once had a near monopoly and now there is an open market. The main issue we have had hear is the placement of a 2nd cantina. Since the 2nd cantina has been placed, the sales on the vendors in the initial cantina have been drastically reduced.
From a mayors standpoint multiple guilds are great. More citizens, larger tax base, more people on at different times. For a PA memeber it is a mixed blessing. I have had to struggle with balancing PA demands with city demands. They will conflict at times.
The city of Twin Rivers was founded by three guilds of around 25 members, two of whom had previously owned neighboring single guild cities on Corellia.
For a short time, it actually worked, although our mayor at the time was a tad overkeen on building things her way rather than for the benefit of the citizens, which caused two of the three founding guilds to force her resignation - the sum of members from any two of the three guilds could form a large enough power block to overrule the third.
