Thread: Buildings A Wishlist
Yeah, that's it! Police HQ!!!
Inside you could have so many interesting things (maybe even security cameras - but that may take alot of programming to get working).
Streets is a must have
Signs for anything such as directions, information, to the name of the city
Flags of all kinds, all the ones NPC cities have
More types of housing, such as adda few more small med and large housing for variety but with same amount of space
choose a kind of theme song for when ppl enter the city like when u enter a themepark
Post Office: to the person who said this, u are a genuis. That could be a major source of income. Buy somthing of the baazar but its in Coronet and u are on Lok, have it mailed to u for a better price that travelling there and back.
Mayor's house: the city hall is for city business not living in. Give the mayor a house(I think it should be really nice and its size should depend on city size). If he is voted out give him the weekend to clear out or his stuff belongs to the next mayor.
Bridges would be nice
Arena for Pvp dueling, anyone that enters can fight all others inside. And the mayor can host special events where planned matches can be fought without interference from others.
Baazar Terminals or some kind of vendor people can put anything they want on and anyone can come buy it.
Statues of different races or even factional status such as the Emperor. U should be able to rename status so that u can name them after people.
Trainers: I think that the money spent on getting training should go straight to the cost of having the trainer
Starports is somthing I would really like to see in the future
Speakers sure music thing has merit but i think more important use of this could be to allow the mayor to make a city wide report, where everybody in the city would get like a system report.
Terminal in City Hall or new ability of city managment that allows mayor to email all citizens, militia, or owners of Civic buildings.
Some kind of structure that dramaticlly lowers the mant cost of housing but still cost a great amount of the city, which would be higher taxes but should still be lower than b4.
Not really an building or structure but mayor should be able to put certain ppl on the payroll of the city, such as militia if they want or just some person that does somthing for the city.
Lots of great idea all around ... Il'l just pick one and develop it a bit mre as it seems to me a very good idea ![]()
The BIG buildings : people talked about flats ... Mall ... and also about warehouse !
Let's extend that a bit :
Mayor can place4 kinds of big building :
_ Flat Building
_ Mall Building
_ Warehouse Building
_ Industrial Building
They come in different size : small, medium, large and they hegh and footprint would vary from on to the other.
My approach differ from others now, instead of having that building under the control of a landlord they would just be additional construction room for a city and anyone buying a flat deed could place it inside a Flat building providing there is room for a flat the size he choose (each building would provide a fixed number of 1 lot room, 2 lots room, 3 lots room in wich a player could builf his own flat (buidl from an architect for a cost less then a house of course)
Similarly, merchants could buyshop deeds (different size too) and place them in mall building (Shop deeds would be designed in the Shop spirit more then actual houses)
Similarly, people could rent Warehouse lotsfor a minimal cost for storage only (unable to declare residence there), that would reduce the cost of small houses used for storage everywhere (same item/lot ratio so no db trouble)
Similarly, crafters could buy special Inside Factory deed and place them in an Industrial Building.
This would help concentrate people on smaller area and leave enoug room for everyone in player cities (and giving more job to architect too)
The cost for the building maintenance would come from the City Treasury (as all maintenance cost) but each lot rent in the building would bring money (in addition to standard residence taxes) so making an empty building a big cost, an half empty (half full if you are optimist) buildinga draw operation and a full building a good source of money (but you know it's hard to get any kind of building full)
I hope that's the kind of structured idea the devs/correspondant are looking for ![]()
Almost all of these ideas have been suggested. I am branching off these ideas, or repeating the ones I really really like
- Gladatorial Arena - Much like the Geonsian Arena, certain people can be permitted (by owner of this structure) to fight PVP on a smaller battlefield, surrounded by (in stadium or theater seeting fashion) spectators. It would be cool, much like the city cantinas or medical centers, to only permit this building to be constructed or owned by a Master Marksman, or some other combat class. This, as a considerably large structure, would take up a great deal of lots (8 sounds aobut right). More details on arena fighting: there could be an arena terminal where the Administrator can enter names to a Gladiator list. Only people on that list can be permitted on the battlefield. You could also assign teams, like Rebel VS Imperial, perhaps name those teams. The second a team walks onto the battlefield, their team is activated, and everyone not on their team turns to be attackable. In the long run, such PVP action could serve as a very decent spectator sport, especially when people twist off of the idea and set up creature battles, sword fights, jedi duels, etc. I would suggest that the owner of the structure could require admission fees during an event. A percent of the cash collected for these events could go towards the Town Hall (Metropolis Structure)
- Police Station (Jail)-Can only be placed by a member of the city's militia (preferably only by a high ranked militiaman, if ranks ever come into play). In such a structure, militia personel could imprison people for a certain crime (MAX imprisonment time of 12 hours). This would rock, as law enforcement will end up being a prime aspect to Player Cities. However, I can see where impriosnment could ahve many problems. Someone could constantly be imprisoned for no crime at all. I guess this would tip that person off that they should probably leave the city if they dont want to rot in jail. But I still think imprisonment should be somewhat modified from that. Perhaps someone could only be imprisoned once a week, or something like 18 hours a week. He or she could also bail their way outta jail, price determined by the owner of the station. I think we should discuss impriosnment, as it has worked in FFXI, I believe it could workhere too. (City Structure)
- Warehouse- Here, people could rent rooms within a large building and store a certain amount of items. As stoarge space is a major issue for many crafters in this game, this would save them many lots for placing harvesotrs, etc. The rate and price of rent can be determined by the owner of the stucture (perhaps the mayor?) and most, if not all that cash could go towards city tax. (Village Structure)
- Shopping Mall- Can be established by a master merchant. Here, that merchant can permit people to setup vendors anywhere within the structure. Much like the Warehouse, that merchant could give another merchant a whole room where he could not only setup his vendor, but decorate with his sale items and furniture. (City Structure)
- Post Office- here, anyone can mail anything to another post office anywhere in the galaxy. This should not only be a player city structure, but an NPC structure as well. You should be able to mail an item to a certain city, with a person's name attached, and only that person can retrieve it from the post office. This saves people the tedious traveling and walking between cities, and even multiple planets. I dont know how the cost of such a transfer would be regulated, but I suggest by item complexity or amount. (Township Structure)
- Animal Nursery- Could only be established by a Master CH or BE. Here, the owner of the structure can place domesticated animals which are free to roam like they did back when they weren't tamed. You could set up corals where only certain animals could go. You could charge admission to this structure, and advertise it like a zoo. But I got another idea to parallel to this structure. In the game Galactic Battlegrounds, if you could store wild animals like nerfs or banthas into the animal nursery, and you would slowly accumlate food. It would be cool if this structure could do jsut the same: it could automatically harvest small amounts of animal resource from each of your animals. What is harvested can be determined on each corale terminal. For example, on the coral where you have two rancors walking around, you can set that corale to harvest bone. By day's end, you could have accumulated a mediocre 500 units (about 250 from each cor). We don't want to make this building to cheap, now do we... (Township Structure)
- Casino- This would also be an neat structure. I am not exactly sure who would construct it, but it could be the only place where you could set up casino tables or games. These games could be made out of the furniture column of an architect. At furniture 1, architects can only craft simple casino games like the slot machine. However, at a higher crafting level, the arhcitect should be able to make Sabac tables, etc. I think, as gambling isanother major part of the Star Wars universe, that the developers need to institute more "board games". Players could play card games or chess against eachother, and gamble over things like cash, weapons, supplies, or even vehicles or ships when available. I would have to assume, judging by its endless possibilities, that the casino would be charged a hefty maintenance fee, but assuming the DEVs come up with fun gambling games, business in this area could fluctuate. (City Structure)
- Player Library- Another structure where I have no suggestions as to who would set it up. However, the owner would be declared the librarian (or if this structure were to be owned by the mayor, the mayor could assign, and possibly pay a librarian). In such a library, people could come and write out short walkthrus or guides on subjects that cannot be found within the holocron help files. These documents could be written up in a library terminal by anyone passing through, and then would be saved on that terminal for the librarian to overlook. If the librarian approves of the submitted content, he or she could "place it on the shelves" in a certain section of the library. A librarian could choose how to arrange the library (IE: Profession information, Themeparks, Bestiaries, Crafting, etc.). When a librarian approves material, he or she could save it to one of these sections for people to come and read. If anyone has any questions, they wouldn't have to walk the streets yelling, they could just walk into a library. However, I do not think it is practical to have someone walk into a library and find nothing, it would be a waste of time. I think that the sections of the library, at the very least, should be viewable from the planetary maps (so that people could see exactly where they could find their information). I also dont think it would be practical, but people could tap into a library database from anwhere for a fee, and find any material he or she desires. (City Structure).
- Monument- A representation of a city's power. A rather large, but decorative and honorable structure. Only one can be permitted in a city. This structure permits your player city one additional city specialization. Maintenance for this structure would be astonomical (even more, if not double, if the city takes advantage of the additional specialization). (Metropolis Structure)
- Militia Structures- These could include city turrets, watch towers, etc. These objects can only be setup by militia personel, at the cost of some of their lots. These structures can be used to keep banned individuals out of town.
- Advertisement & Merchant Structures-Can either be setup by a Merchant or Mayor (skill permitting, and depends on the object). For small maintenance fees, signs could be setup by the mayor around town to label important things. A merchant can also setup signs or holographic billboards advertising their product. These advertisements would not be payed for out of city maintenance, but by the merchant himself.
- Decorative Structures- Some common ideas include streets, walls, larger buildings like towers, outdoor cafes, etc.
To all my knowledge, all mayor-placed city structures do not take up a single lot. Correct me if I am wrong, as far as decor goes.
One structure I would like to enforce again, and point people out to, would have to be the casino. I was talkin to my guildmates today, and that idea kept sounding betterand better...
oh cool, if they dont take any lots up that is all the better...
we need hotels. if you go into the city hotels on Naboo all of them have gambling things similar to those you find in Casinos of IRL...
if we have hotels chances are we will also have gambling. there ya go, gambling tax!
One thing i would love that im supprised hasn't been suggested:
A public defence siren.
The mayor sounds this to alert other players and the militia that danger is comming. It would be useful if you had a jedi you were protecting and you wanted him or her to run into thier house and have the milita attack the incomming bounty hunters.
Sworndsman statue.
Seeing that it appears that a lot of players are puting cities on dantooine i would love to be able to erect one of those "jedi knight" statues of the hooded knight holding a sword over his head that you see on dantooin and yavin IV.
Nostradamus Smyth
How about a multi-dwelling of some sort... you know, apartments? Right now, my understanding is that to be a resident you must have your own individual house. What about a 3 story building that takes up roughly the same footprint of a large house, or maybe a medium, and each floor is one person's apartment, with their one structure control panel, and the ability to have 3 residents in the same space as one.
Granted, the coding for this would be along the same lines of being able to partition structures with different permissions for different rooms/sections, but I then, I think we should have that too.
-Mohenjo/Jarmo
Walls and gates like those around the NPC cities. These are essential I think.
Sidewalks.
Stables and hitching posts and, for when vehicles come out, parking lots and garages. That way mounts and vehicles will have a place to be stored and won't clutter the city streets.
Landscaping is a big part of any city and adds to its uniqueness and appeal. Gardens are a good start, but I think more should/could be done with landscaping. Simple things like flower beds, trees, and shrubs that can be placed individually around buildings or along streets would be a sweet touch.
I would also like to see players be able to decorate the exterior of their own home with some items. Such things as small chairs and tables, benches, potted flowers, potted plants, potted trees, torches, and lamps. These should be placeable on balconies and front porches. This should be simple to implement since these items are already in-game. It would just mean allowing them to be dropped on porches and balconies. These items should also be able to be placed by urban developers at city buildings.
I would like the ability to alter the ground around buildings and in spaces left open between buildings.
For example:
Have an Architect craft8m x 8m sections of brick road for a Naboo city. This small section can be placed in an open area or the "yellow area" around homes and structures to give the city a sense of roads. at any time the section can be removed to reveal the original grass underneath it.
I scanned this thread briefly, and didn't see what I was looking for. Nobody's mentioned the old One-Stop-Healin-Shop...
The City Tavern
This is so much more credit/lot/time economical, and the structures already exist in-game. I'm wondering why the Devs decided not to do this. Was it simply another money/lot sink, to ensure that a Master Entertainer, and a Master Doctor lived in each city?
