Thread: Militia/City Ban woefully inadequate

Not convinced. This is a game where everyone pays the same amount to enjoy it. Indescriminately banning people or load griefing them with mines is obnoxious. What do you want? An invisible forcefield outside the city limits that only allows people to enter who are on the entry list? Besides, you are a rebel and should therefore be opposed to this sort of tyrannical flaunting of power.

Casey, I see your point and understand what you have been trying to say the whole time. It is an exploit that imperials can use the cloning facility and shuttle port to destroy a faction base within the player city. In my opinion this type of exploit should be a hotfix issue, but I offer an alternative:

Build the faction base further away from your city! While it may be much easier to have the base right next to your city hall or your house, it wouldn't be much travelling (especially with mounts and soon vehicles) to have it a bit farther away from the cloning center or shuttle port. I see it as your lack of forsight that your enemies are able to take advantage of your base. You built the base next to your city and you built the cloning center. If you want to stop the threat, move one of them.

A big decision of placement of a faction base is how easily it can be defended. I would think right next to a cloning center would be one of the hardest places to defend. It's your choice. Make the smart one.

I agreed with that position from a knee-jerk reaction as well Sunakk, but after thinking it through have changed my mind. First of all, PC's explicitly allow the placement of faction bases within the city. Why give us this ability and then make it suicidal? But the larger problem is that defense of a faction base requires presence. You need to BE THERE to see the attack happening and come to the base's defense. Since the whole point of player cities is to make a place that is the center of activity AND you need to maintain a large force presence near the base as much of the time as possible isn't it only logical that a factionally aligned player city is where a base should go?

There is one: cities are capped, and EVERY player has rights to the same content you do.

Why does it have to be *this* city? There are 10 on each of the Big 3 (soon 20), and 25 on each of the Hard planets (soon 50). You can get the content someplace else, and you have every right to go somewhere else. You *don't* have the right to force your playstyle, attitude, and gameplay on others.

Jedi will never be a starting profession...Looted items and quest items will never be better then crafted items, this is not a loot based game...CH will return shortly...CH and BE will not be back in game...Rangers are getting their revamp next!...The stealth system will not be changing in the spy expertise...Need any more examples of things the devs said that did not hold true?

Look at a city like your house. You can set it to private and let in whom you wish. You paid for or build that house just like we did the city’s nothing was given to us and we have the right to make the city private or public. There are benefits to both sides (public and private) and problems with each.

It was unfortunate that the dev at the last second told us of the cap, but it appears they are attempting to compensate for that. I know of a lot of cities that welcome all players (Cookeville) so its not like if you want to be a part of one now you cannot.

The fact still remains if your not welcome in a city, for whatever reason, you will be removed in some manner. This brings depth to the game and would not be as much fun on many levels.

Getting back to the original topic yes I agree that the commands are inadequate at times, however there are ways to composite for that until we get better control over out cities. That can be anything from allowing more people into the town then you originally wanted, to setting up a militia 24/7 to run people out of town. It will work itself.

What, no more takers? I can't believe after all that fighting that you guys are going to give up that easily. Come on, give me another reason why I don't have the right to defend my city?

I think everyone left work and actually played the game.

Maybe this is just on Chimaera... but just because the PC cap was hit within minutes on Corellia/Naboo and such... does that mean that u cannot place your city at another planet? I mean... u want a neutral city... but u got pissed because u cannot place it at Corellia? If u have a large portion of players in your PA... then why on earth don't u just make the city on a "less so popular" planet? If the PA is working well, the planet can't really matter that much.

And why shouldn't the mayor/citizens be able to make a faction aligned city? and prevent the opposite faction from using the city cloning facility? If u had killed a **edit**load of NPC's of opposite faction for a base/turret/whatever... would u be having fun when someone used your cloning facility to totally destroy that base/turret/whatever in no time? Because the mayor cannot prevent the opposite faction fromusing those services? I bet u would be pissed!

If u r able to defend the bases in the city u will still face problems.. because even though the attackers may get killed... they just clone in your facility... and oh... they r not overt anymore... but how big a problem is that when your defenders attack the remaining overt players IN THE GROUP?... bang... u can now be attacked by the coverts that just cloned.

I can't wait till they implement a working /cityban command that can allow u to ban PA's and factions as well.. without them being able to use the shuttleport or the cloning factility. AND being able to /cityban without being within line of sight from the target.

Just my 2 cent.
