Thread: registration for voting needed instead of declared residence
I think there's a reason why "Metropolis" begins at 80 citizens ...
It's to make Metropolis not that common, make it harder to get 80 houses together ... and it should look like a bigger city, not just like a village with 10 houses and 100 voters.
I just don't like the idea and can't see that it's that hard to give up 1 or 2 lots ... (Merchant Tent is 1 lot and you can declare residenz, or small Naboo house is also1 lot) ... you still have 8-9 lots pumping resources or crafting items for you ... all the crafters in our 90 player community city-to-be have at least one house, some have a large house with 6 lots and are doing fine and can't await the city feature coming.
Careful reading of this thread has yielded these results in my mind:
1) Married couples should be allowed to BOTH declare residency in a home.
2) Property ownership should be a pre-requisite for voting rights (much like some sci-fi novels I know
).
3) A new building, capable of multiple residencies should be created.
And that is all. I do not buy into the idea of allowing non-property owners to have votes. It's too dangerous. In real society, this is a moral issue, but there is less morality in games.
As for the person who's crafter friend will not give up two lots: I owned a PA hall on Corellia and managed a thriving tailoring business for two months before I retired. My one lot was my factory, and I rented lot time on harvesters with little trouble.
RbT
the example of the artisan who has to use all their lots for harvesting, and shares residence with someone else, is perfect. i know a lot of people who put their vendors in a friend's house, and use their own lots to gather resources.
I am a Master Architect... and I own a home. If you want to participate in a city, you need to make the sacrifice and give up the 2 lots (or on Naboo only 1) to have a home. It's there to prevent abuse... your friend that shares a home may have good intentions, but way too many people in the game don't.
I'm not in favor of this.. sure, voter responsiblity, but any Tom/Dic/Harry that shows up at my City Hall can register to vote? Too much grief potential.. as others have already pointed out.
If you can't plant a house .. or share one (I like that idea).. you have no business voting.
Hmmm, let's see...
Don't require a house in the city...Oooh, that means I can go to the Starport in Theed and spam the bejeezus out of all the newbies ... /yell *WANT TO MAKE AN EASY $10K, come vote in my city...PST*
Yeah......No...
