Thread: How interested are politicians in having a combat support role?

Oh, and another reason I'm against combat support (other than maybe pre-combat buffs) for politicians is that we have many mayors who are aren't combatants, instead they're mainly crafters and healers.

So if we're going to collectively lobby for new abilities, those first new skills should be something that all of us can use and enjoy. If combat support skills get added, they will only really be useful to those who still have enough skill points in combatant professions that they can protect themselves in a fight. So that would make these new politician skills useless to a large number of us. If the abilities are PVP only, that's even worse, because then they'd only be useful for people who are still a little tough, factioned, and enjoy PVP.

I guess I like the content-generation skill idea better because it's something we can all use no matter what our other professions are.

A city defense role ...yes

I wont even bother typing idea's as most have been mentioned and a 5 yr old can come up with most of them....problem is the amateur DB admins and coders we're stuck with in this game cant tie their shoes...and my patience and desire to be here for 5 yrs is wearing thin because of it.

I think things like an NPC support team should go to the Squad leaders, but I like the idea of politicians being able to give speeches. These speeches could act like buffs, or even help your standing with any of the minor factions. There's a lot of potential here.

Similarly, where do you think Grand Moff Tarkin fits into all of this? He was a governor...but would you consider him more of a military leader or political one? I think he would probably be a Master Squad Leader/ Master Politician .

Crowd Control?

BOOOo PLEASE DO NOT CONTINUE WITH THIS THOUGHT.

Combat?

Not interested. 100% non-combat oriented.

Possible futures of ElitePoliticians?

They're a basic profession, are they not?

Faction adjustment?

Politicians are meant to get along well with everyone. Gotta be some way for pirates to like you again.

I'm with many of the Politicians in that I don't see a combat support role as being necessary for Politicians. Regardless of how you want to play a Politician, giving something like crowd-control to the Politician skill tree will instantly cause "Mayor for a month" syndrome as all sorts of people try to gain that one skill, as many here have pointed out.

I'd really like to see Politician enhanced along the lines of what he/she can do for player cities, be it content, defense, or whatever. The city should reflect the Mayor's style and personality, which in turn should be guided by the city's citizens.

Some of the ideas I really like that were expressed by others include:

But my favorite possible politician skills I've seen mentioned in other threads so far have been the more content-generation type ideas. Things that would let politicians place mission-giving NPCs, place NPCs that will read a set script that we give them, and possibly even a limited ability to generate low level MOBs. My main wish is that any new politician skills be tools that we can use to create our own static content, or to set up special events for our citizens. That kind of thing could really encourage travel to player cities, to see who had the funniest content or the best plots for their NPC missions.

___________
Diplomatic Immunity - this would be a once per hour skill granted, say at Civic Policy 4 (Stateman title). This skill would make it so that no Player or NPC can attack you for one minute's time. If you have a TEF, it would remove the TEF and you could not gain one again til the immunity wore off. However, while this is in effect you are basically in a state of grogginess so you cannot attack or do any other actions.

At master, you could give Diplomatic Immunity to another person, but again, that person could not do anything but run basically. This would be nice for when a covert member of a faction gets stuck in an opposing city's cloning center (you still clone at a player city cloning center as the "closest") and is pleading to leave the city without dying to turrets and landmines.

One idea I've had for a while that pertains to the DE's getting combat droids is at Master level we get special combat droids that only master politicans can call. They would serve has our bodyguards as a form of protection and would be higher lvl then the normal combat droids any person with no skills could use and call. It would give Master Politicans a more powerful position in the game since we actually get our own special droids. It would really help us out espeically since we have to give up so many skills points in politican and really don't get anything in return for our own benfit.

Also, remember politician isn't an elite profession. It has some APP points prereqs but your other professions can be anything. You cna ba a mayor-architect, mayor-commando, mayor-pistoleer/rifleman/carbineer/TK/whatever combat profession.

Apolitician wanting to go into combat has plenty of skill points to do so. So I think it wouldn't be good to enforce combat on people who rightully thought T21's or flamethrowersweren't the politician weapons. So an active combat role is imho not the good answer.

Best way to deal with the tall guys is to give them incentives to lick the ground. And dont look down on me that way youre not THAT taller.
