Alright everyone. Guess we're all wrong because there's A city that can make good use of it's income. I guess we should all pull up stakes and move to Dantooine.

gee am i the ONLY one outta 20+ servers to get their town self sufficient ROFL, almost makes me feel godly thinking about that. my points simple, you KNOW a town cost money to run when you start one, if you dont plan out how to pay for it its YOUR fault. ive spent enough time strolling these forums to know by now begging for a nerf only leads to trouble. when was the last time cites got ANYTHING new? parking garage maybe? instead of asking for new ways to EARN income for a city like having billboards to rent out for advertising pr some type of casino/hotel for gaming profits someone just wants the devs to give us something for nothing again.

last 2 major issues this proffesion had i recall involved skill points versus benefits to be a master politician and electing mayors. the devs chose to follow the faction that wanted skill points nerfed instead of adding value to the points spent. being the only 0 point profession are you really surprised that any city enhancement are planned for "some time down the road"? Same problem with elections, people wanted it changed and ill agree totally it did need changing. Problem being once the devs nerfed abstained votes going to the incumbent they also nerfed the xp gain from them. is anyone trying to master politician now really enjoying having to get everyone in their town to remember to vote so you can get your xp every three weeks?.

Play the game within the framework we have now and save crying nerf for the issues that are REALLY a problem. need cash see the sticky about grinding an hour top of this forum. dont like grinding kill some npc's for loot. donthave combat skillsfly a few destroy missions in jtl and sell all the parts to the chassis dealer, thats a few hundred k there counting the credits and attack wave bonuses. no jtl, stick a parking garage close by the mission terminals, add 1-2 more near the merchant area, catina/med centers, or routes you know people will travel alot ie to the nearest shuttle/spaceport. be surprised how fast 3-4k a repaiar adds up over 7 days.

maybe i sound a bit harsh but it irks me when people want things always handed to them instead of taking the time to EARN it for themselves

well, I for one am glad that you Aren't...with an attitude like that...No one would have anything if you were in charge.

Now, just because your city is doing good, congrats, some cities Aren't because of the location and or the server. You are on a prime planet for your city because so many people go there for the FS guys and what not...there are some others that chose quiet and remote spots...doesn't give you the right to come on here and post your 'Art thou so holy attitude and make others feel even worse about themselves, their abilities and their towns/cities. If people want to Post their concerns and what not, they have the right to...they aren't Crying or whining as you seem to think, they are upset at the fact that the costs ARE in fact too high. as for them wanting something handed to them, that's NOT what they are asking...they are saying Lower the costs. All of us ARE EARNING it because you CAN'T Grind this profession. Step down off your high pedistal there that you placed yourself on and make a suggestion...NOT bash people and call them names and make fun.

Maybe I sound a bit Harsh, but it really irks me when people come onto threads and totally flame others for their concerns and rub into others faces the fact that they are doing better than someone else.

funny city costs havent gone up a credit since we had cities as far as i know, AND if you havent noticed now you get the full 10k mission payouts compared to when groups took that nerf to payout/total group members 33k=1.6k back then.

as you CLEARLY state above people CHOSE to have a city and were to place them. theRIGHT to have a city also comes with the RESPONSIBILITY to pay for it. the devs havent done anything to make costs rise since we first had these and these costs are also well know for decorations trainers specialties ect. you wish to talk about earning it since we cant grind it, well earning it also comes with paying for it. if cities becoame so cheap that anyone could afford them how long do you think it would be before you couldnt go 1k meters without seeing another city hall on every planet.

instead of lowering costs the devs should FIRST fix all teh bugs with what we already have to generate revenue, THEN add more functionality for towns to use to generate revenues, like id saloons, gaming casinos, maybe landing fees for a town starport ect, maybe evensome perk for level 5 cities maybe that makes em worth being besides the other 50 meters of city radius. id rather have the devs spend a few weeks adding more to us than have em spend 5 minutes cutting expenses then telling us we got our cost revamp cya next year when we get back to cities again......

And thus still gives you the right to come in and bash people and make them feel bad...Like I said before...Step off your soap box and come down off your home made pedistal. You were rude and there is no reason for it. You aren't any better than any one else on this game.

When you last posted before you were rubbing it into others faces. Some servers are not as wealthy as yours might be, Or there is a cap on the other planets for the players when they want to place their cities...The xp Is to slow, not enough and the costs are to high, I'm sure you have forgotten what it was like to start your own city, or maybe you just moved on into one that was already up and running and you just happen to take over. Either way, people aren't asking for things to be handed to them, we All have to EARN the xp and everything else, and it may be harder for others, unlike your city that supposedily makes well over 1.3+ million a week??? IF it's true, than that's really great for you, but most others don't so that...consider all the options before you decide to slam your wealth into someone that isn't in the same postition as you. That's all Im clearly stating.

I agree, decorations cost way to much. If they're not lowered there's going to be a lot of cities without statues and gardens.

Here's my quick opinion after reading all the posts above:

What makes a game interesting is when there is challenge - for me part of the "fun" part of running a city is the challenge of paying for it. Frankly, if you can't pay for it (and I'm not necessarily talking about solo-funding the city) then you shouldn't have the city - this is not a flame, it's the talk I give myself everytime I think about the costs. One of the ways to evaluate an argument is to follow it to it's conclusion. So, let's say they lower the cost of running a city - what will happen?

Plus side:

- those with smaller pocketbooks will be able to place more decorations/trainers/ city perks

- those wanting to run a city but have hit a financial barrier will now be able to do it

- Player cities will start to have more artistic flavors as people feel the freedom to decorate more freely with gardens/statues/fountains.

HOWEVER...

Negative side:

- Planets will quickly cap out on player cities because it becomes so much easier to run one.

- What's the sense in having taxes, shuttle/garage fees etc. when they aren't needed?

- The lag will increase greatly on planets.

but in my books the biggest negative will be...

- LACK OF CHALLENGE for politicians running cities - the politician prof will become just another "add-on" secondary profession (which has already happened to some extent because of the sp nerf - which I happen to like btw lol)

Personally if they lowered maintenance costs for cities I would be deeply disappointed because part of the fun of being mayor for me is paying for the city that I'm growing (with other friends). I love decorating and so a big CHALLENGE for me is going garden/statue/fountain "happy" and still being able to pay for all that WITHOUT creating financial hardships on the citizens residing in my city. That's part of the challenge.

SOO... I can understand the argument that city costs are high but my response would be that if they nerf the costs of a city it will nerf the challenge in running one and thus the satisfaction factor in being successful in keeping a city going (and a well-decorated one at that lol). I hope I'm not coming across as boasting or anything because that's not my intention - I'm just trying to think through what it is that makes running a city so much fun - the high maintenance costs are part of the equation for me.

I agree with you, Khristen. I think cities are expensive, but then they're supposed to be. One person should not be paying for the entire thing. Taxes desperately need to be fixed, though. I think we'd have a lot lass people complaining if they worked properly.

/agreed. Cities should be expensive. You are running a CITY. lol Takes a lot of capital. Mine took 508k a week to run before we got bumped up to Metropolis, so I'm guessing around 600k a week once said and done. /shrug I'll sell some things in a vendor or run a bunch of missions.

City is funded by me and a few donations here and there, no taxes. So it can be done.

I mentioned the idea of having terminals and trainers give a kick back to the city at one of the Fan Fest panels. They said they'd take the idea back, although it could be a long time before we see something like that.

I'll be taking a look at our Top 5 issues in the next week or so. I know that income generation is one of the big ones. Pappi and I both took the Fan Fest opportunity to bring up Sales Tax several times, as well. Having that fixed would certainly relieve some of the pressure, but it's not an easy fix.

I'd like to see us come up with some unique ideas that could be implimented via game systems to help cities support themselves and generate interest. The devs want Player Cities to be unique from NPC cities, which I think is a wonderful idea. We need to start thinking beyond the perks of NPC cities and find our purpose....but that's for another thread you should see soon.

actually, I would not have a single issue if Sales taxes worked, my city generates10 million easy a day, with up to 40 million on good days.
