Thread: Planet Purge can we get a response here?
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the house purge is a waste, what I'm saying is all those that are bashing SOE for taking so long to implement it are ignoring the fact that just as soon as they trot itout, they will have to deal with a lot offrivolousCSR tickets from people that should have paid closer attention to what was happening.
Those frivolous CSR tickets are what I'm saying will be a waste for SOE to dedicate resources to, rather than serious CSR tickets, bug fixing, etc. Evenwith the houses simply packed up, you can bet that people will be bent out of shape for losing their prime location, orsimply not realizing the house is in their datapad. Then they will stand in line with all the other players that are doing the same thing, being ignorant and submittingCRS tickets. Meanwhile, SOE is using its resources to deal with ignorant players, instead ofmaking SWG better.
And while I think the auto-pay feature is a good one, the unfortunate result is that many people don't pay their maintenance anymore, and they simply delete the emails they get about it. So, say they get an email saying their house is about to poof, they won't be paying attention.

Really, my opinion on that is "too bad for you." And I understand what you are saying, but how do you propose they inform everyone so there are no complaints? You yourself said that emails wouldn't work, and that's the best way I can think of.
No matter how they do it, there will be people complaining. I say just do itand get it over with already.
That's just my point, you are alllooking at it too simply as "just get it over with". I ask you to view it from SOE's point of view that it will beanything BUT"get it over with". On the contrary, once it goes live,it will be just the beginning for SOE of dealing with endless complaints about it, via countless CSR tickets from people who want to know where their houses went to or why they lost their prime location.
That effort takes away from things that might be of better use, like bug fixing or dealing with legitimate CSR tickets. A CSR ticket someone fires off when they log and find their house gone and someone else's house in its place, while being ignorant of the fact that it is in their datapad, is NOT a legitimate CSR ticket, IMHO. I don't know about you, but we all pay part of the bills, and I would rather not have them wasting what tiny bit I contribute on ignorant players.
The common thread amongst all complainers of how SOE does or does not do their business:itis thatthey ALL forgetIT IS A BUSINESS. They must do everything in a matter that least effects the bottom line, and if that means taking forever to implement something, then so be it. If that means leaving just a hair's chance that someone might open their closed account without finding all their stuff poofed, so be it. If it meansgaining 100,000product sales/new accounts at the cost of 50,000 closed accounts, so be it.
So what are you saying? That they shouldn't bother doing a housing purge because they'll have to spend too much time dealing with people afterwards?
I know I'd rather spend their time on that, no matter how long it takes, that almost anything else.
No, I'm saying be patient and let SOE make sure the are good and ready to do it. I'd rather they take their time and do it right (or as best as can be)rather than listen to everyone griping about how long its taking and then screw it up by rushing it. My original post was in response to people bashing SOE for taking so long. I know there are going to be people complaining no matter what, but let SOE decide at what point is the complaining going to minimized. In other words ST*U and let them do their job. And try to see why it isn't as simple as flipping a switch.
Besides, you STILL don't get it, it doesn't matter what any of us want, it iswhat's going to be the most economically practical way for SOE to do it. The fact that you can't advance your city or place new cities has no impact on their business model other than if you leave because of it.

But how long will that take? And what will they do that will make people complain less?

I don't think any of us are in a position to even guess about that. I do know from running a free Ultima Online server for 4 years, it is almost impossible to foresee every possible combination of events that might lead to someone's house getting nuked rather than going in their datapad. So don't second guess SOE, it's their job to run it even if we don't see exactly what all the reasons there are for running it like they do.
Oops. My question should have read "And what can they do that will make people complain less?" (I think it's more of a rhetorical question at this point.) People will complain no matter what happens.
What's that saying - you can't please all of the people all of the time....
The Great Purge is needed and hopefully it will come. Now the house pack up is in place. What makes me laugh is that why should SOE even keep all these peoples things who are not paying any more? If I stopped paying my rent and moved out of my house - you think my land lord would be nice enough to pack up all my things and put them into storage for me? (and then pay for the storage?!) I very much doubt it!!!
As I see it, if you stop playing then you stop playing - I understand that people go into the army and the like and may be away for a while but that does not mean that they stop paying their $15 a month and their stuff will be safe - as it should be.

Whether the current population agrees with it or not. returning customers are still customers and they want to give them something to return to. hence they care about cancelled accounts items.
That's why the purge will just pack up the houses. They won't be destroyed, the only thing returning players will have to do is replace their houses.
