Thread: Why is it called Politician?
( chuckle )
I didnt mean any offense to Saddam..... I mean Posi.....
I demand a detention center structure, so I can lock up disidents (sp) like dayln ![]()
I am not a dictator.... I am a unanimously elected representative of the people you ... you.... aggitator.... lol
Oh, we have alot more people in town that are not inthe same guild as me than those that are. Just started moving yet another guild in last night. We already qualify for the Shuttle.. roll on Friday.
Avote for Posi is a vote forprosperity![]()
Now... where are the Malitia when you need them?
I am gald Posi,
And yes I was just ribbing you.
But you know what I mean. I have more respect for your city now than I did before. It is cities that are so afraid to loose control that they limit thier own growth that need to not count against the player city cap.
How about
"Vote for Posi or our militia will shoot you!"
Or
"A vote for Posi is a vote for your own survival"
Lol.... i don't even have a Militia yet.
I refuse to recruit one until i know the other citizens (from other guilds) well enough to recruit one that has members from a cross section...
In the mean time I wont even recruit the people in my own guild that i know well.... just trying to be fair.
I am glad that we havn't had any need for a Militia to this point... hopefully that will continue.
A vote for Posi is a vote for the only candidate!
No shoes, no shirt, no vote for Posi, no service!
We need some famous lines too......
Posi: "I did not have a close physical relationship with my Carion Spat! There is a vast rebel conspiricy, supported by the Rebel media making these claims!"

Who decides who is on the council?
What powers does each position have?
Who can remove or change the council members?
Can the council override the will of the Mayor, and if so what is the game mechanic?
These are simple questions to answer:
- The mayor decides who is on the council.
- The council members must be politicians so they have the powers they have earned through XP.(They could get XP for being appointed to the council) This is an important distinction...you should not be granted powers like the Militia is, you should earn them. You want to be treasurer? You need Fiscal Policy I. You want to be Police Chief (Leader of the Militia, Captain of the Watch, etc) you need Militia Policy I minimum. Same for the Employment and Urban Planner positions.
- The Mayor removes and changes council positions.
- The Council is a check/balance on major decisions such as the destruction of any civic building including the city hall, they have the power to stop the city from being destroyed.
We're just simply working on a charter.
Our city was founded by 3 smallish to mid-sizedPAs working together. Leaders from the 3 PAs and I are working out a charter to post to the city on our forums. After discussion and modification, we'll have a vote to ratify the charter.
It's just basic social contract. Yeah, there's no real powers conferred, and basically any authority is simply based on an honor and respect system.
I think it would be neat to be able to grant powers to council members. Since that's not in, I figure the only way to make this class a politician in the truest sense is to really consider the interests of all in relationship to the interests of the individuals. Balancing the needs of multiple groups and providing effective mediation for disputes in the city seems to be the best way to handle the class as it's coded now. The crafter citizens will have different concerns than the combat class citizens. Your rebel and imperial citizens will require a modicum of tact to balance, especially if you are faction-aligned.
Basically, the class is entirely what you make of it.
I also think the mayor for life concept is largely flawed. If you don't manage the city and its diverse interests well enough, you will lose the job to someone else. Let's face it: once the city has a shuttleport, cloning center, and customization 1, a citizenry can afford to wait on a new mayor to gain skills.
But I don't know, maybe it's just my playstyle. Without the real tools to give power to a council in-game, you have to rely on the social contract theory and RP the various authorities.
