Politician Archive
Thread: The life of a politician.
77? points to become a profession of tax management? It seems that the player cities need to be a bit more elaborate.
Hehe, 67 skill points to get the City fully decorated and functional. But once done, the Politician can unlearn everything and return to their regularly scheduled grind.
I do agree that Politician, as designed, smacks of Merchant. It's sort of skill-line overload. It's very interesting, and I'm looking forward to it, but I'm also looking forward to the absolute minimum number of weeks to Master being 15 (one for each skill box) as it's currently designed. That's a heck of alot of time, longer than many PAs stay together.
And my PA and allies are having more fun deciding what the city is going to be before the shuttleport anyway.
Sluggy,
you know me. We've been eye to eye on politics since day one.
I see you asking for NPC stuff, but really, any content like that is going to get old, fast.
Isn't the activity of real player politics more fulfilling?
Where's this real player politics thing coming from? Just in fighting for the mayorial votes?

Hmmm.... Seems a lot of politician responsibilities revolve around email. I intend to be a politician - have been planning a Player City and recruiting residents since July.
However, I have been a victim of the "Empty Inbox Syndrome" for over two months now. My in-game inbox is empty everytime I logon and it empties even if I just disconnect/reconnect.
Unless fixed, sounds like this may completely shatter over threemonths of well laid plans.
Greets ...
I hate to suggest this but ....
Merchant and Politician should be combined.
The reality is that Merchant is pretty much of a worthless profession ... so is politician. They are necessaries ... but there is nothing in *either* tree that does anything for your game play.
Merchant ... wow, I get7 vendors ... ok ... Oh ... I get to pick the vendor in minite detail ... ok ... Oh, I get to put clothes on them ... ok ... Oh ... I get to put them on the map ... Ok.
That's it ... so I got 7 vendors ... they are on the map ... and they *are* the vendors I want and they *are* dressed the way I want ... Ok ... I am done ... what's next? nothing?
Master CH's get to tame better creatures ... *all* the time ... Master Rifleman, Carbineer, Pistoleer, InsertCombatClassHere, get advantages they use in their game plan the entire time they are doing combat (speed, accuracy, specials) ... Crafters? They get to make better stuff and make that stuff *better*. Medics? Better Meds the Heal Better and do Better stuff.
Hmm ... 4 ok's ... then never ever used again ... it's a dead profession ... once you achieve the master.
Merchant? Politician?
Sorry ... the stuff *never* gets used again ... once you have placed those nice gardens ... or choosen a 2 specialties for your cities ... well ... it's like putting in that 7th vendor ... that's it ... Game Over!!
So ... please ... bring this fact to the Dev's attention ... Merchant and Politicians are both *Dead* professions ... once you hit master ... your *done* ... your skills are done ... and you never really use anything you earned again ... Game Over :-(
Hey, merchant DOES give a lot of benefits to the player. Have you seen the difference in sales between a registered vendorand a "basic" one?
Yak, mmmh, not charismatic? In my office now! ![]()

Agreed. But then you need some sort of planetary councils for people to play in. And perhaps even a senate at some point (even if it is just a puppet of Palpatine). Maybe they can even argue about zones of control in the planetary councils. ![]()
Personally, my politician is also an artisan and merchant. I won't be a full time politician because I have 2 and a half other professions that I can master (or already did).

I play a master merchant. That's it. I run harvesters and vendors. Its pretty much all player driven. People tell me what the want and I get it and sell it.
I don't do caves or hunts or big battles. And I have been in game since day 1 and I am not bored. Must be my playstyle.
I am EXCITED about politician. Now I can run a city. May sound ho-hum to some, but to me the challenge is daunting. We have over 100 players in the 4+ pa's that plan move operations to our city when we set it up.
I don't have time for PvE, I spend to much time interacting with other players. I have Pistol and a FWG pistol so that I can kill stuff while I run between harvesters and not have to waste time fighting.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a little slaughter of helpless creatures everynow and then. but since June, I have done very little combat, heck let's figure it out I have pistol 4 that's 1k+5k+15K+70k of pistol xp. I recently picked up brawler cause a buddy said melee was fun. so I now have 1hand 2 and 2 hand 2 so that is (1k+5K)x2 melee xp = 102k points of xp from killing things. Spread that over June 27th or so until today (131 days) equals about 786 xp a day. Pretty low part of my day is PvE.
Bottom line: If your playstyle doesn't support your playing a politician, try something else. If it does then at least let them get it loaded before slamming it.

Soon to be Mayor
Kurt,
I understand what you mean about the NPC stuff getting old, but Sluggy's right on the money here. Mayors need a stronger RP aspect to them. More rewards for being mayor, and more consequences for their actions.
I think Slugeater is REALLY onto something. We have to remember that much of this game are basic systems that are very expandable with probably the most potential of any game out there.
And to Thunder's comments, those missions get old becuase there are no tangible benefits to doing them. I finished Jabba's palace and got a bunch of weapons, some of them pretty good. Trouble is, I can't use any of them and I wouldn't really want to anyway. I'm a Doctor. Make those missions have tangible benefits that people want to do.I would even likePictures or something we can hang on the walls of our houses, something like an ability to place my screenshot of Jabba on my wall. EQ has shown that tangible mission benefits created by the developers works. SWG needs to do a little (a say again, a little)providing content for us.
