Thread: Militia Droids for Player Cities & Mayor Protection? Oh yes!

This is a great idea, with the restrictions listed. More protection for the citizens would be a great benefit for the city to support. It would be nice if the police droids could also attack players that are attacking citizens, but Dayln's point is well taken. Perhaps warned players who are not citizens would be attackable by police droids? That would fix the voting issue.

They should simply just remove the ability to /citywarn and especially /cityban existing citizens. If you think about it, it doesn't really make that much sense that you can do this now. That would solve the mayor-voting-griefing issue.

As for the militia droids, yeah, make it so they attack any con red crits around (like a pack of stray pikets for example - though, no crits have spawned in our city so far, so does this even happen?)

We get Tuskens, Squills and Dragonets in our city all the time...

It looks like everyone agrees - but with the following restrictions:

1. They cannot attack citizens whether they are /citywarned or /citybanned;

2. They can attack all other RED MOBs within city limits;

3. They should not get involved in PvP situations at all - only PvE;

4. They should be powered from some City power reserve, not have to get batteries ever 30 minutes!

5. They'v got to look cool outside the City Hall?!

Does that make sense?

Ok, I fully agree with this idea of Droid based millitia, perhaps in addition to NPC millitia members, but not Droidekas!

There is actually a droid in the expanded universe already set for this task- the SoroSuub 501-Z "Zed" Police Droid. Unfortunately, the StarWars.com online databank does not have an entry for the Zed, but they are listed in the official guide book on droids. I believe they got there start in a comic book, but I dont have my SW guide here to confirm the origin.

In any case, I feel that the general lack of a significant droid population is the main reason this game lacks a more "Star Warsy" feel. In the movies we see the streets flooded with protocol, astromech, repair and utility droids. In the game, I get off a shuttle to Coronet Starport or Bestine, and I'm swarmed by dozens of large, smelly creatures! Including this option/advancement for player cities, as well as perhaps more random droid spawns in cities vrs the current number of people, would help greatly! We should also be treating pet droids as pets and have access to more useful ones, but that's for the CH or DE boards...

KaiRan, the 501-Z entry in the Essential Guide was exactly what gave me this idea. I'd love to see those things tromping around the city, perhaps occasionally spouting, "have a nice day, citizen."

I was not even aware that it was possible to ban/warn citizens from their own city. I agree that ability should be removed, as it is just too easy to abuse, and also that droids should never attack (or be attackable by) citizens of their own city.

I was, however, picturing these as offering some resistance in the case of a PvP problem. Even the best city militia doesn't have enough manpower around the city at all times to handle undesirable elements. If possible, I'd like to see the droids' AI and combat abilities balanced such that they offer the offender ample opportunity to leave the city, but become a threat if the unwelcome person does not leave promptly. These are, after all, peace officers, not soldiers. Given the problems we're already seeing with city officials using the militia mechanisms to grief innocent players, I see this as a system that must be tuned very carefully so as not to compound that problem.

This would be an awesome idea.

I'd like to see it so Militia members could order the droids around too, getting them in their party, telling them who to attack, etc.

Plus it would make a warning easier to enforce. Part of the problem with a militia is it's going to be made of up fighting folks. And those are the players least likely to be hanging around town all the time.

Easy to implement, make it another city building or buildings (set at the perimeter, not the center) that spawn droids or NPCs that patrol. Shouldn't be too hard, maintainence based on the structure, not the number of NPCs or droids that spawn. Call it a 'Guard shack'
