See I'm not sure that I like this. Me and some friends just started a new city and all my mayor alt has is Novice Politician. Its great to have the extra EXP but now that means my city is going to be growing at a slower rate right? Because I have to wait 3 weeks as opposed to getting 1k exp every week (we have 11 citizens).

I'll have to see how this works out. I can see both angles on this one. Definitely keeping my mind open.

If you are the mayor, you will still get 750xp per week. It's a little bonus for existing mayors and will allow starting mayors to advance.

Also, /bo tr is supposed to have been disabled for people attempting to travel to/from a city they are banned in.

Nice. This has been a long time coming....
Of course, it doesn't really do much for towns who are a year old and still have the same Mayor sacrificing 77 skill points with no intention of giving up...
Was kind of hoping the taxes would be fixed or we'd have our skill point requirements removed, but oh well. This will make a lot of people happy. Although it also has the potential to create a lot more attempts at hostile takeovers of cities and the destruction of them to place a new city hall elsewhere on full planets.
We'll see how it works out I guess.

you mean like me?

as for taxes, they're looking into it still. no timeframe, but they're working on it.

If this had gone in 6 months ago, Odano would have stayed on as Mayor. I am very happy to see this!

I knew being close to the top of the thread increased the likeliness of the developer actually answering the questions I had. I hope I asked the questions that popped into most people's heads after reading the patching explanations. And sure wish he answered all four, but he could have answered none.

Not bad changes, although I am still looking forward to the skill point requirments being lessened as was discussed at FanFest. Over time, 77 full points gets to be quite a burden, espically when you aren't doing anything with those skills.

But hey, at least we're getting something.

I am very shocked they've tweaked mayor. It's nice to see them make it easier to become mayor, or to stop being mayor, now if they can only tweak it so there is a reason to STAY mayor...

5 stars for the devs. This is good progress. I only worry they now consider us 'fixed' and will put us back in the closet again.

Player City

City Voting Rules Update

* The system for electing a new mayor has changed. Voting is now held every 3 weeks. City maintenance still occurs every week. A citizen who registers to run may now unregister from the vote terminal. The mayor may unregister as well. Changes to the voting roster are only allowed during the first two weeks of each election cycle. The citizen with the most votes wins the election.
* You MUST explicitly cast a vote in order to be counted. Abstentions no longer count as votes for the incumbent.
* Experience point grants for winning votes have been tripled. The incumbent mayor also receives a weekly 750 point experience bonus.

Voting System Fixes / Changes

* Voting will change to take place every 3 weeks. City maintenance will be unaffected.
* Candidates, including the incumbent, will be able to opt out of the election at the city voting terminal. Everyone gets an email when this happens.
* You may register to run in the race during the first 2 weeks of the election. Everyone gets an email when someone registers. In order to block email spam abuse, players will only be able to register/unregister once in a 24 hour period.
* Votes that are not actively cast for a candidate will no longer be counted.
* The mayor will be elected by the majority of voters who participate.
* Politician XP for receiving votes will be tripled.
* The sitting mayor will receive a weekly Politician XP bonus of 750 points. This will allow mayors to advance if their citizens are apathetic about voting.
* A method for sending a city version update email to all city citizens will be added. This way each citizen will receive an in-game email detailing the new changes.

Bug Fixes

* Players that are banned will no longer be able to take a shuttle to the city they are banned from.
* Commands that allowed banned players to buy tickets and travel in cities they were banned from are now fixed.
* Structures will no longer be transferable to players who are banned from the city.
* Public structures containing vendors will be transferable without requiring the vendors be removed

Hurrah.

Hurrah.

And thrice hurrah.

But...

> Votes that are not actively cast for a candidate will no longer be counted.

Could it not be made so that mayors gain full XP if no one registers against them? Asking everyone to vote for you every few weeks could get tedious.

Everything else looks great though. Hurrah again.

xp per vote is tripled, and this is for encouraging active politics. if you have a semi-active city and you need the xp, it shouldn't be too hard to get as much or more xp than before.
