Thread: An easy way to stop the city swap.

I certainly don't want to see a limit on declared residences per account. And I don't even know if that is possible since each galaxy is its own server and the code is a copy on each server. Many players play on more than one server and should have the full game available for each character. Taking this away is most definitely too high a price to fight against a tactic that gives cities little advantage in the beginning and no advantage later on. It may seem unfair that some communities have done all the work to get to where they are while another has used ghost citizens, but it's not hurting anyone. In fact, if a city fails because of lack of financial support, there will be more potential citizens to join your city, which has a much better chance of being successful.

DUDES!

To solve this problem we have to take into account that the people who cheat by setting up Ghost Cities are exactly the same people who will use exploits to get more credits, and therefore relying on the cost to stop them is crazy.

The only way to stop them is to use the Account system to allow only one Declared Residence per account - this is the only one that makes sense and is not open to any exploitation within the system.

Ghost cities DO affect other players - a large city ties up a lot of land space, prevents others getting a city because of the cap and will lead to empty cities that will undermine everyone's enjoyment of the game.

If you are commenting on this issue and you are NOT a mayor or involved in a Player City, you probably cannot really appreciate this issue - please trust those of you that care about this profession and this game passionately to get it fixed.

Ghost citizens cause three problems:

1. The Ghost citizens votes are always locked into the encumbent, allowing that person to simply sit back and grind XP without doing anything to win people's votes.

2. They allow small cities to develop further than they are allowed so that a city of 5 real people could end up with their own shuttleport, denying a real city of 15 people the chance to grow.

3. Who wants to fly around and visit cities that are always empty? That would spoil the game and destroy the environment for those with the intelligent to try and play within the rules to see if there are up to the challenge.

It is only a matter or time before cities made-up mainly of Ghost Citizens go up in a puff of smoke, giving genuine players who want the chance to develop and run a real city with all the challenges of recruiting other players and the politics involved!

I have to agree.. but also.. I'm sure that 5 people would LOVE to have some real people coming in.... the reason they have ghost cause no one would come to town... (because of whatever reason.. what if they are on lok in way out there.. no one will come until shuttleport is built unless you get some dedicated players..

real players can join other cities (that is what the dev wants.. that is why we have cap) and so you "five" people wouldn't have to pay for everything....

I'm sure the people who have ghosts LOVE to have real player in their cities...

I know that some feel that they need a shuttle to get citizens but it's just not true! Work hard at it, talk to people, get the people you bring in to get people.

What really gets me is with all the time spent posting, walking out 5K with your **edit** toons who are slaves to their new and equally shameful Mayor, and then setting up their toon in your town, you could have gotten some real people.

Some do this with the best intentions, get the shuttle now and I'll stock people in later when they don't have to walk.I feel their pain but it makes this no less an ugly tactic. Some just want a shuttle to their storage unit. Why didn't you just set your home up 500 meters from a NPC city I ask them. "Lag" is the response I got from our servers most dreadful exploiter of this method.

I again plea for fast action, with the new shuttle port caps going in make sure real cities get there first. It will be a real shame if an 85+ person city will have to still ride out there so the kid who didn't wanna go 10 minutes on his mount has to wait9 minutes for his shuttle.

The worst thing about serverswaping is if you did the same thing in your servers forum, chat room, and major citiesthat you do on all the others servers forums, you would have it legit!

Being Tuesday now, I know that those who are doing it or have done it are not changing their mind. I can only hope that those who have tried to hold the moral high ground and are afraid they are gonna come up short don't resort to this too. For those that are full of ghosties, try to save some face and get some real people now would ya?

Dude!! Thats the dumbest thing I've ever heard. There are people who actually, legitimately play on more than one server. This "city swap" problem will work itself out in the end.

I'm not sure where people get the idea that these Player Cities will be hotbeds of activity anyway. The interplanetary travel is still ONLY done at the main cities. With the upcoming vehicles, whats the point of shuttling to a player city to get to a spot, when you can just ride there on a swoop bike in half the time??

Who cares if people do cross server swaps? The town won't be that great if only 5 people live there anyway. Some of you guys are just way too **edit**... get off the forums and go play the game for a while...

I think the idea of making residents have to enter their homes once a week is a terrible idea also... I have alot of guys in my pa who dissapear for a week or two at a time, I also have about 25 millitary members in my city, and any one of us can not log on for a period of time...

Also what happens over X-Mas, or other times if someone goes on vacation? The side effects could destroy a city.

I think this whole thread should be closed and the argument banned from the forums because it's moot.

Way to insult the people reading your post right off the bat. You're absolutly right, cause as a Polotician we can go level by...... Oh wait, discussing our issues with other poloticians is what we do. I suppose you are exempt from your own catagorization of people who post right?

I totally agree and only wanted a two week prevent on NEW characters. Nothing required beyond that, just preventing the creata-char swaps.

Again, agree

This is where you really become an ass. This forum is not like a loser ghost filled town where one guy makes all the rules for him and his 2 other pals, We have free speech and if you don't think this is an exploit you are a fool. Since this is the Polotician forum you would discuss Polotician issues and this is one.

I think the point proven here is that people who doit think it's ok, people who don't despise those who do. You are correct about one thing, the point is moot.... for the moment. At least until the new caps come in and a real city is capped at level 3 cause some kid with a 500K a week vehicle (shuttle) is holding them out.

Also, no one has even talked about the effect that all these new toons (and there are a lot) are slowing down the servers. Even a 5% jump in the database can cause problems. But again, what's 50 new ghost toons for every city that needs to get a shuttle.
