Thread: Solutions to the slash-and-burn soon-to-be-deposed Mayor syndrome
I think a simple solution is :
You cannot destroy a City Hall of there is another candidate for mayor, and the hall will only destroy at city update.
That way, any citizens that really want to save it, have to put their skillpoints where their mouths are, and take novice politician & stand.
I'm not exactly sure how to handle this... I think the City Hall should be a permanent structure, and there should be time constraints on maintenance (a grace period, so to speak) where a new administration had the time to garner up the funding to take over the existing hall in case of an embezzler removing most of the cash in the kitty (I don't think that anyone should be allowed to bleed the treasury dry.. there should be a cushion coded in, possibly? .. enough for 1 weeks maint that can be added to, but not dip below.. at least by treasury withdrawals..)
The only reason a hall should poof is lack o bodies.. less than ten, gotta do it again...
Having been the victim of not quite so devistating as the Hall being torn down, but losing a key civic structure in the town, I can understand the very valid concerns... and don't understand such infantile behavior.
It's a game, fer crissakes. Get over yourselves.
code it in.. and grow the hell up.

Several good ideas here. I especially like the idea that if there is a second candidate running, the City Hall cannot be destroyed. However, if a Citydecides they want to relocate the location of their hall, a griefing player could hear about this and prevent them from moving by merely running for Mayor.
Also, if its only allowed to come down at the next update and another wannabe City is waiting to place a hall on a capped planet, this could possibly keep the first city from moving their location. All the second city would have to do is know that time and be ready with a deed elsewhere on the planet. Or worse, in that same location! Having it at a time where others could know when it would occur could be dangerous.
What I think would work best is a combination some how of a majority vote agreeing to allow the mayor to take it down IF a second condition on a candidate running has been met somehow - like there has been no votes for the second candidate. If the second candidate has x amt of votes, the Mayor cannot take the hall down even if there was a majority vote allowing the mayor to do so. That allows for time to discuss and work out issues instead of tearing down halls on a whim.
Too many griefers out there figure ways to ruin others fun. There has to be a backup plan to limit the griefers.
A solution to that scenario is that the vote would be to grant the mayor the option to destroy the city hall. It doesn't mean that as soon as the polls close the hall disapears it means that as soon as the polls close the mayor can walk right up to the terminal and nuke the building. This way it doesn't happen at a set time, and if the mayor is really absentminded it allows another advantage to the nay-sayers.
The more I think about it 2/3rds may not be enough so the 75% idea sounds pretty good. We aren't ammending the constitution after all![]()
