This is a big problem for us because if Ichiir doesn't login to do maintenance our city could be destroyed.

I'm not sure what you mean by this... why does he have to log in to "do maintenance"...? what kind of maintenance does he do that only the mayor can do...?

Well I spent the last 3 days online doing nothing but harrasing our current citizens to come vote and to recruite newbs (stand outside Mos Eisley Starport and greet them as they log in with their helper bot) and I finally got the vote turned in my favor (lets hope it stays that way).

I can sorta understand the issue of votes going to the current mayor in-abstantia but if that mayor decides to resign then the system shoudl stop giving him votes that way. Seems simple enough and would certainly solve a lot of these issues.

Just my 2 cents

Here's a proposal I put together a few pages back. I'm still trying to take over from our AWOL Mayor, the only advice I’ve been given is to recruit more citizens. I'm reluctant to do this as I don't consider it fair to invite people to a city which potentially has not future

Proposal 1:

The incumbent votes for one of the other candidates running. By doing so he is endorsing this other candidate for mayor and removing himself from the running. He will be presented with a confirmation dialog stating that he will be retiring from the election. Any votes that are currently registered for him will be release and that citizen can vote again for one of the other candidates. The incumbent will retain all privileges until the end of the election at which point the mayoral duties will pass to the winner. If there is more than one candidate running the one that receives the vote from the current Mayor will be flagged as "Endorsed" to highlight that this person is the departing Mayors preference.

Proposal 2:

System stays as it is today, but the automatic votes that go to the incumbent Mayor are only counted if the player has logged on in the last fortnight. This is not the same as the 6 week rule which removes the player from the city headcount. All this effects is the right to automatically vote.

Proposal 3 :

Allow Smugglers to Slice the voting terminal and rig it so the new mayor wins

If your Mayor just wants his skill points back, he can drop them all but Novice and still be a mayor. He'll just have to retrain when he wants to do anything.

Most Mayors in this boat Master it until they have the city how they like it, then surrender the unneeded skills.

Naw, our mayor wants ALL his skill points back including the 15 used for novice politition so that won't work.

Proposal 2 won't work above because many times mayors just want to resign, not stop playing.
