Thread: Why do so many of you want PRIVATE cities for just small numbers of people? That's dumb!

That "1k worth of land" isn't that much, especially when you're trying to pack 10 houses of various sizes into it along with that monster City Hall.

I know of no huge metropoli that started out as one.. especially when they were way out in the boondocks.

It was my understanding that the whole point of Player Cities was to settle the wilds of even the more populated planets - so I would think encouraging small groups to MOVE OUT would make *sense*!

What use is a city, no matter what size, if it's "convieniently located" 1k out from a fully equiped NPC city? That's the standard "PA Hobby group", not an Outpost in the wilds at least 3k from any one..

IMO, I would encourage those 5 person outposts... but at least 3k away from anyone else's outpost..

And a 48 hour grace period for citizens.

How many people is it ok to relocate:1,5,10, where does it become officially wrong to step on people????? Eminent domain etc. may be "legal" but it doesn't make it right. Who are all of you to say how someone should or shouldn't play the game. If they want to have 10 people in a small town that has their name on it, the game has let that happen. It's the suits fault for not building servers powerful enough to manage the databases that deserve the questions here. Not those that are enjoying the game in their own way.

"""My problem isnt with poeople wanting a city of 10. My problem is a city of 10 controlling 1k worth of land.. Something needs to be done about that. A /capoutpost or something, if you arent going to grow, then allow others to use that land..."""

They do not control that1k of land. They only control the area that the city had at that time. if the city raduis is only 150m then ytou can still place strutures 200m away.

Correct me if I am mistaken.

But the city can potentially grow 1k, so the game system forces city halls to be placed 1k away from each other.

Well if everyone wants to join one of the few cities that did develop as intended, the Boondocks i believe it is, we are centrally located on Corellia 4k away from any NPC city.

Alright I have been reading alot of these posts about how cities should not be controlled by a PA and no city should have 5 or 10 citizens, I think u are all wrong heres why. Please read the whole thing before you flame me, ouch thats hot.

The only people in the game that can make a player city is a guild, period. No one player can make a city hall, place it and get enough people to join to make the 24 hour deadline, its not possible. A guild is the only player organization that can generate the tallent and resources to make the cities work.

Player cities with only 5 or 10 people. hey look you have to start some place. "Journey of a thousand miles starts with one step". My guild started our city with only 5 people, we are actively recruiting citizens and guild members. The point, we want to grow as much as possible, we just had to start somewhere. The only point on the above posts I agree on is that a city should not want to permanently stay an outpost, your right they would control a 1.5K range not just a 1k range and that would be stupid.

Other people wanting to become mayor: Since my guild started the city, built the city hall, has had structure in that spot since game release there is no way I or any other member of my guild is going to be pushed out. The reason we are so small is because we planned ahead for cities, we had a horrible time getting new members because we were in the boonies, now we are reaping the rewards that a city will hopefully provide us. Not to mention the huge eggo stroking that a small guild of 8 could get a player city on corellia.

*nod*

We're small . . . 13 people (14, but one's not becoming a citizen for some reason, *grumbles at bugs*). We're growing at OUR pace, not what other people think we should grow at, and its our right to do so. While we started as a PA, the PA was founded to build the city and joining it is not a requirement; as a matter of fact, it's splitting into two or three independant PA's now that the city is founded.

We're probably going to be at least 2 weeks to rank II, maybe a couple ofmonths to rank III, because we want RP'ers and decent people in our city; people who really care about it and want to see it prosper, not just "get a shuttleport asap". So we'll be happy with just a mission terminal for a while, and we'll celebrate when the entertainers can have their cantina. That's OUR choice, not yours.

Geez, another thread about how my PA didnt get a city......You know what, non/small PA's did that I have read. So what....they made it happen.....It was never said that a PA is the only ones who were to have a city....If people decided at this moment to stay small so be it....Doesnt mean they wont grow later....

If you were a PA who didnt get a city then build outside of one...You can still use the stuff but dont have to pay taxes...I read a thread that someone said they have the 2nd largest PA on that server but didnt get a city....If your that big maybe a little planning could of worked....Hmmmm, maybe multiple people could of been ready to get politician and multiple archs standing by to put together the city hall. If you didnt have your City Hall already pre-made with everything you needed to put together then you didnt plan.

I agree with who said that we all pay the monthly fee....so hats off to those who put down city halls beit large groups or small groups.

Happy Trails.

We want our own places so we don't have to deal with idots like you. Plain and simple. As a player I have the same rights and abilities as you. If me and my friends who are guilded together want to make a small outpost to invite other people/guilds to come live with us we **edit** well have the same right as you with your 10, 30, or 100 people to make a outpost and try to enlarge it.

And maybe if you believe politics are non-violent, maybe you should try to contact the neighbors that are 'screwing' you over and try to get them to merge with you or to convince them to move. Hey, maybe you can actually prove your more than just power hungry and have some people skills.

the idea of yours contriving the illogicality of small towns in fact can be named as dumb. in this our REAL world, there are zillions of small cities, towns, even 2-3 houses together in all over the world. villages, they are called. hippie comuns some are. so, it is pretty justifiable thatmaybe 1 billion or so people dont agree with you and they live in small cities in all over the world.

Fact is some people dont want to be around other people, nor should they have to be. If a group wants to have a city, so they can enjoy the company of like minded people, so be it. Form your own community guided by your own ideology but dont assume all do or should agree with what you believe. This forced anarcho-democracy is pure pants. Perhaps the dev team are a bunch of flag burning may-day neuvo anarchists, but FORCING this political dogma on the guilds and gamers of SWG is a bad call, poor decision, and will increasingly cause trouble.

The fact that people can walk into town, grief via harvestors, take over, and in general usurp the hardwork of those who built something...steal and invade...points to a dogma that, like most dogmas, is horribly twisted and perverse. Alowing players to invade with guns is one thing, hey thats fun...alowing them to kill via the hostile takeover and the dreaded fleet of personals...well...yea thats starwars...itsJUST like im living the movie =p
