Thread: city cycle due 30 minutes before server reset
The problem is not how long the update takes, or when it happens, the problem is "What happens when the update is interrupted by a server shutdown"
What it boils down to is:
Does it remember to kick off from where it was when the server comes back up, or does it stop halfway through the process.
If it stops halfway through the process there is a potential problem. However, Ido not believe that it is a problem asTC was being bounced all the time while the city stuff was being tested, and the cycles were going every day, so I doubt the cycle is affected by the reset. If it is, we'll soon find out.
But your right, considering TC goes down so much, they probably would have noticed something.. They were on a sped up cycle for awhile from what I understand. (An update every 24 hours)
Actually yes I used to be a DBA. I've worked on many data warehouses from 10GB to 4TB in size. Believe me when I say I've seen some developers that have written such crappy SQL that it would bring a Cray to it's knees. There are many instances where poorly written SQL will cause the database to do a full table scan instead of using the indexes. I'm not saying this is the case with SOE, my main conern is what happens if the servers go down during the update no matter how long it takes.

And I suppose you're a DBA?
Anyways I checked this morning 5 minutes before the server came down and I got all the messages that the city had expanded and I won the election, but I didn't get any xp. Well hopefully it will be there after the servers come back up.
Same here...
Checked 5 mins befor server down.. had received all the messages that I won the election, but got no xp yet. Also the city terminal still showed us being a township, when the mail shows we have reached size-4 (City)
I guess i'll just sweat out the rest of the day and see what has happened when i get home from work.
