It has been stated that there will be a system purge of all 6 month inactive accounts that will take place in Nov I believe (I can't remember for sure). This should remove inactive players for the city hall rolls. I am mayor of a level 5 city and we have people still listed as city res whose houses have gone poof, indicating that their accts are inactive or have been deleted. When this happens it is going to make a big hit on citizen population for many cities. This is the dev's solution to getting rid of server objects to reduce lag on the servers. This should help address the problem of cross server cities. When the 6 wk inactivity rule was put into place several months ago, many cities including my own lost resident (we lost about 14). I expect the same thing is going to happen again when they purge all accts that have been inactive or deleted for 6 months.
I believe player cities bring the most "real-content" to SWG as it promotes a sense of community that npc cities can't provide, yet they are the most "mess-up" aspect of the game. Player cities are going to make or break SWG. It is a major headache to run a large city and the devs don't seem to realize this.................there is no real real reason whatsover to master politician and try to do a good job of running a "real" city. You receive no special compensation for being a mayor, you receive no salary, you give up all those skill points, you can't use for another proffession. You spend hrs in game just doing mayor stuff and have very little time to level your toon or try to master your own proffessions. The potential to be griefed and scammed by players is immense. Submitting CSR tickets does little if anything, and ends up being an excercise in frustration and futility.
Many well established players cities are slowly losing residents. Many new player cites started have completely folded. Running a thriving city is alot of work....................it ends up being a full time job. In the big scheme of SWG.............the mentality is that cities will rise and fall..............don't expect the dev's to do anything about player cities.
There is no real player content to being a mayor and running a city, other than you like to be a mayor and run a city.
I am a master politician of a level 5 city on Bria server on dantooine, so I speak from personal experience.
I don't really make too many post anymore as all you get for your effort is one-starred and flamed. But I feel strongly about the issue of player cities and hope this post will generate some "sincere" feedback. The dev's do look at these forums, but only about 20% of SWG players even come to the forums, so unless a particular thread has alot of responses, it is like spitting in the wind or trying to swim up river.
