I want to move mayor to my Alt character, This may be tricky seeing that some of my citizens are only on once a week or less. You think a CSR would have mind switching mayoral duties to a character thats owned by the same person? In a sense it's not a mayor change just a toon change.

I would also like to do this in the future. An answer to this question would be appreciated.

Ok, I have an idea on another way to do this and i want some input on if you guys think it will work or not.

I am currently the mayor of a city, and have been for 10 months. We have roughly 70% inactive. My idea is to have the person that the city thinks is good enough and trustworthy enough to replace me to pick up novice politician, be on the ballot for several weeks with people voting for them to build up their skills. When their skills are as high as mine are, i will drop all politician thereby forcing me to be removed from the ballot which should shift all votes in the city to the only person left on the ballot.

Am i correct in my line of thinking or will this just screw up the city?

I would have thought that if the old mayor was inactive and (presumably) no one was bothering to vote anymore, all you would have to do would be put yourself up for election and get 1 friend to vote and you'd be in. But it doesnt sound like thats the case. Does it not work like this?

That would only work if dropping politician would cause you to stop being mayor. I'm not certain that is the case. Can anyone verify?

People don't have to actively vote. Inactive's votes are automatically cast for the incumbent unless they change it to be for someone else.

A few months ago I was saying the same thing, I even posted a thread around here ranting . Knowing what I know now, I take it all back, It is possible to elect a new mayor using the voting method (..and a lot of spamming).

Our old mayor had disappeared and there was only 1 militia member left who was no very active. I made several CSR tickets and the only response that came back was they could only help out if the Mayor's account had been cancelled; I.e. He was no longer paying. As our mayor was "taking an extended break" and didn't want to cancel his account I thought there was nothing I could do, I wanted a quick and easy way with the minimal amount of effort to take control. Well I'm sorry there isn't one and with hindsight I don't there should be one.

This is what I did to take control, I hope that you might find some of it useful.

Find out how many active players you have.

The easiest way to do this is to tip every citizen 1 credit. The way the system is currently set up is that you will receive an email when the amount is delivered: I.e. when they log on. Therefore if you send out 80 emails and receive 19 back over the period of 2 weeks you have 19 active people on the island who can vote for you.

Find out who you militia are and if possible become one

We only had 1 member of the militia who wasn’t very active, I emailed everyone on the island asking if any of them knew a private email for our absent mayor. Someone did and I arranged a time when we could meet and he’d set me up as a member of the militia.

Recruit and advertise

Start spamming the forums, set yourself up a spam macro and stand outside the city hall, what ever it takes get people to come to your city. Put some effort into it, don’t add a Haven Island is recruiting /tell me for an invite post, give them a reason to join sell your city. Here is the advert we pulled together so feel free to plagiarise

Link

Get help and spam, spam , spam

Remember there are other people on the island so illicit there help in spreading the word.

Send weekly emails to all the citizens reminding them to vote, the in game notepad is very useful for this (/notepad), I copied the names from the city management terminal and every time I wanted to send and email all I had to do was copy and paste. Make sure you tell them where the voting terminal is, surprisingly enough not many people do!

Organise recruitment nights where you agree that at a certain time you’ll be online to help settle new residents.

Over that week several things happened, some planned and some unplanned. We recruited nearly 30 people in the space of a week more than what we required, the vote was cast and I became Mayor of Haven Island. We also noticed a new found sense of community on the island, all the work that had been put in over the past few weeks had revitalised the game for a lot of people on the island. Saving Haven Island had given everyone on the island a common goal and purpose; I’d never seen things so active and so much enthusiasm flying around.

Now that I’m Mayor maintaining this will be even more difficult than taking over. Yes the process of assuming control was difficult but ask yourself if you are not willing to put in that effort to save you city are you the right person to be mayor ?

Good luck to you.

No, dropping Poli would not remove you from the ballot. You only need novice to get ellected into office, once your in, you can run with no poli skills if that suits you.

That's what I thought. How much simpler our lives would be if this one rather logical aspect was changed...

Here's a fairlysimple way to get people to take the time to vote:

go to your town hall and hit up the city management term....pull out 10k from the treasury and you will get the option to send out a message to all your buddies....then just tell 'em if they want their money back they better vote you out of office. Don't forget to max out all the city taxes you can anddrop 20 ID trainers (or however your town can hold) and turn all the mission terms to BH terms. Then drop streetlamps around the shuttleport for good measure and disband the militia....I'm pretty sure any active members you have left who don't actually quit your city by that point will gladly vote you out....

unless they know that the guy running against you is your alt

you're welcome

Well, a lot of good suggestions here, I will probably resort to trying 1 or 2...

This next week or so however we are trying a new method... Our current mayor is going to drop a house in another city and declare residence there... we will let it sit an election cycle and see what happens... I don't have high hopes but its worth a shot...

I definatly will be doing the 1 credit bank tip though... also I think I will try to spam my citizens... A large portion of our citizenship is active... just only slightly... ie, log in maybe once a week or so...

And dropping poli does not work.... worse comes to worse we may have our mayor cancel his account and then have a CSR fix things.. sounds like they might if he cancels... of course we will discuss this with them first

I'm attempting to try to do it the democratic way this week, If it fails then I might talk to a CSR to see if it's possible. Most likely not get much support.

Be polite (as I'm sure you are anyway)....please let us know what you find out.

Well so far I got half the votes I need to for my second account to get mayor, maby a little more harassment I might be able to get the rest I need. Perhaps some more recruiting might help out aswell.

Well after a whole day of harassment I got the needed votes to pass Mayor off to my alt. I would of Liked to see if a CSR help out but no big deal. One other thing that I found was cool is that my city is about 65 percent active with only a couple of those every other weekend warriors. I'm still surprised that I didn't even need to massivly recruite people to do this aswell. but having 50 citizen might be easier to manage than mayors with 80+.

Congratulations Trashawn,

It's good to see another success story for changing Mayor the "Official" way.

So if you really wanted to switch mayors but had lots of ghost citizens, would it be possible to just allow the city to decay to 0% by removing all maintenance and waiting a week or two. Then, when city disappears, you could have the new mayor put down a new city hall in same spot as old one. You would probably have to redeed the banks and other city structures too.

End result is that all citizens inside the boundary would need to redeclare their citizenship to the new city. Thus, any ghost citizens would never go on the roster of the new city andthe new citywould only have active players. Might take a while to get back up to level 4, but I think you can skip levels. It should be possible to go from level 1 to 3 or 4 in one week. The real limition is just not having a large enough city radius to have enough citizens. But once you hit level 3, you should be in good shape, and as the city radius increases, the players houses that are overrun by the city can just re-declare citizenship.

If this worked, the only real risk is that you don't want tolose your level 4/5 slot for the planet you are on. So you just have to be sure your planet doesn't have another city waiting to get in to the upper city levels who would take your slot. Of course, if your city is at level 3, then this would not matter.
