Thread: Plinka, I notice you refer to a mayor as 'her' only...

I hate flaming. Flames depress me. But it's very hard to refrain from flaming this thread. And it's not just the thread, it's the depths to which average intelligence had to have sunk in order for what is clearly a significant excursion from that average to bring this thread into existance.
Just shoot me. Hopefully it's just an isolated, environmental thing in a limited geographical region.
Ummm, it's easy to string together a bunch of words, dude. But through your infinite wisdom can you please enlighten us as to what exactly you're flaming? Seriously, get a sense of humor, hippie.
Yes, it's only women. And every time you see "he" in the manual it means only men can be that profession. (No, I'm not serious.)
Oddly enough, many women tend to write "she" and "her" instead of "he" and "him" ...
And how couldyou seriously, honestly think that her use of female pronouns implied that the Politician Profession was designed by SOE to only be allowed to female characters in the SW universe for this game? I mean, the devs have made mistakes and decisions we don't all think are the best, but this is well past the line of hyperbole...
What do you expect. "it"?
"Yah, the new mayor of Xville is great. It put alot of effort into its town."
We're not talking about robots or bothans here.
Plenty of games have done this; usually single player RPGs, but Anarchy Online did it too. (Not saying SWG will, just pointing it out.

Which would be incorrect grammar. "They" and "them" refer to plurals, not gender-unspecific singular pronouns. It's amazing how language influences perception, and ironic that those who were confused and left-out at seeing "she" are the same people who don't understand why others might be irritated at constantly seeing "he" as the default. The cop-out solution is he/she, which can get pretty ugly when you repeat it twenty times in a paragraph. If you look in pretty much any modern textbook, you'll find that it's now politically correct and grammatically acceptable to switch back and forth with the gendered pronouns, and most do so to make it to print. Using "she" instead of "he" has nothing to do with being a "woman thing" (can't believe someone had the ignorance/gall to type that) but rather with a conscious effort to neutralize passively sexist language by making both pronouns equally applied and acceptable, without butchering the flow (he/she) or grammar (they) of English.
Or maybe Plinka flipped a coin and "she" won for that post. I don't think she has any duty as Correspondent to cater to one gender or the other. And if she had used "he" this thread wouldn't even exist, which is not only sad, but a perfect example of why "she" ought to be more often used.
lol well when you see 'he' or 'him' it's more universal than 'she' or 'her'.
