what i speak of happened just recently ... (within the past month and a half) ... and the CSR's and devs just said 'tough luck' 'he was in charge it was his decision to delete it if he wanted to' ... but i digress from the persons origonal intention for this post ... that city is long gone and can never be rebuilt ... (stupid city caps on planets)

Pulling up the Hall..wouldnt that be rather petty? And unfair to all of the citezens there as well?

If the citizens overthrow the mayor, and that is 'within the rules', then it would seem that the current mayor would be within his rights and 'within the rules' of the game and game mechanics to pull up structures and cause havoc before he was elected out.

That scenario is definitely not a winning one, though, and the mayor would probably create a reputation and some long term enemies.

i had talked to several CSRs before about the issue of a mayor destroying it s hall to prevent a more or less "hostile" takeover

the general answer was that

It is the right of the mayor to destroy the city at any given time, no matter if he s loosing the vote or not!

Doing so is not act of griefing, unless he is blackmailing the citizens or an bannable offense

the only fair solution is for the creator of this post to get all of their items out of the city hall and put them in a large house or sell them on a vendor or the trade forums if they don't want them, let the other people have the city and try to find 10 loyal people and start a new city and put the decorations in the new hall

As a (retired) mayor of one year, I can feel your pain. I can even understand that it's hard letting go of ownership of a city, expecially after investing so much time and money into a city to keep it going for such a long time. Like me, you've probably evenfreely givencitizens a free house, speeder and credits and put millions of dollars in the city treasure. You may have made or bought the shuttleport, clone, Guild Hall(s) and other structures.

But, you did leave for 2 months. That in itself leaves suspicion in the minds of the current and new citizens. Really, how many mayors do you know take a leave of absence for 2 months? And really, what guarantee did the citizens have that you would even return?

I was online nightly for 2-4 hours for a year. I would expect if I left for 2 months someone else would like to fill the void. I would also suspect, someone else was filling the vacant roll and managing the city and making sure there's enough citizens for the ranking not to change or that the city would lose it's shuttleport or other structure.

Unfortunately, in one's absence things change. It's best to be there when changes occur.

I have been relying on a Deputy Mayor from another guild in Aurora run the community for me while I have been mostly offline from October through December. He and I talk almost daily and he is an active pariticipant in the discussions my guild (the one which built the city) has. His guild and my guild are working closely together to make Aurora a great community and I have confidence in his abilities. If the citizens were to make a choice to remove the Hadrian account as Mayor and replace him with another candidate from my Deputy's guild I would not be uspet. I have been Mayor for more than a year and feel that I have done my part. Should anyone want to try it, they are welcome to run against and beat me then take over. Though I suspect they will find it very difficult to beat the Hadrian account in an election.

Cheers!

I feel your pain. Had the same sort of thing happen to me, and I had not even been on a LOA. I was active and everything. It's only months later that the true reasons for the attacks against me, coming to light.

However from experience I have found that alot of old mayors are leaving or forced out of their cities. The players have changed, as there is little reason to help each other any more.

Do what many other mayors have done. leave, and create a small private city. My city has 10 people in it, and I'm more then happy with the situation.

Well it sounds to me like there definitely are two sides to this. Maybe peaceful negotiations will help. Maybe not, but no one ever said politics was fair, democratic or no. The only safeguard to keeping a city hall from being yanked up for spite is the inability to remove more than 50k a day from your treasury. Which is why I keep my treasury at about 4 million, enough for ten weeks running. I dont charge my citizens taxes, and I pay the upkeep entirely out of my pocket, although many loyal citizens also donate out of choice.

If the city was ever taken over, I would just have to accept that I was no longer their choice. All things change in time, people, families, ideas, etc. My original vision for the city will also change, in time, because that is the nature of things.

Just have to deal wth it and move on.

you asked for responses, and if some of them are not what you wanted to hear please disregard them but do not flame them for replying to a discussion you started.
