Thread: Annoying issue with crybaby mayors

Our current mayor figured out that he is going to lose the election this week. He was most unhappy about it. He deeded the city hall and took it along with the treasury.

Has this happened elsewhere? I think city halls need some sort of controls to prevent mayors from destroying the city without concent of the citizens.

I guess we need to be more careful who we allow to be mayor.

He didn't take it, it's gone. You can't redeed the city hall, only destroy it, along with whatever treasury is there. So you're out your city and your credits, for which I feel very sorry for you.

In this case yes, the mayor has more power than they should, and you do have every right to complain. Losing an election is not a good reason to destroy a city.

it seems that his mayor is just in for the "power" instead of the better of the city... a person that need to be avoided in the future.

Well, that's exactly why you shouldn't put just anybody in power.

I think it depends on the situation - if the mayor built or paid for the hall on his or her own and was depositing the vast majority of the funds into the player treasury, then I think he or she has every right to do this. The citizens can go buy or make another city hall and refund the treasury.

If, on the other hand, the founding of the city was a group effort and the treasury was comprised of tax revenue and or group deposits, then the mayor shouldn't do this...

I am curious as to why the current mayor was being voted out of power - was this a city take-over situation?

As I said when player cities came out, the ability of the mayor to destroy the city hall and thus the city should be removed or at least put to a 3/4 vote by the citizens. Or perhaps put a 7-day waiting period so that everyone knows that the city is scheduled to be destroyed. That way they can elect a mayor who will reverse the decision or leave town early to avoid wasted time. The devs HAVE to do something about this. I'm surprised there was nothing in the patch on Test Center.

with players like this.. I guess there is a chance that other cities can grow..

This is not a good thing (even if the player help built it) brining a city down to level cause you lose an election is like blowing everyone away with nukes cause you lost the presidentcy.

Before anyone points fingers, maybe we should know the whole story?

Was the town being taken over? Did the current mayor fund everything? What happened to make him get voted out of power?

My view on the whole situation would depend on the answers to the above questions.

I do not know his side of the story. The city was formed by a small PA. The PA members funded the city hall and the treasury. I have no idea how much the ex-mayor contributed vs. the other members. The story is, the ex-mayor mentioned that he did not want to be mayor any more and asked another guy to do it. He did not want to be mayor either. This got passed around and another member decided that he would like to be mayor. For some reason he took offense at this and destroyed the city hall.

It did not take us very long to purchase and place a new city hall, but that is not the point. I'm not sure if this is the first time that this has happened, but I'm sure it will not be the last.

In my opinion, the answers to your questions are irrelevant. Once you place a city hall, your citizens own it. You do not. Your PA does not. You are just a politician who is running things this week. Cities are meant to be taken over as part of their lifecycle. The profession is called "Politician", not "Dictator".

In this case, we are only out about 350k. Our town was very small, still an outpost, so it is not that big of a deal. This could be a very big deal if a large group of griefers decided to destroy a city every week.

It's politics, dudes! Don't move into a city where the mayor is a <EDIT>!

Glad that you have it sorted now!
