Thread: Impact of Starport Changes in Publish 8
I do wonder if this will thin out the crowds in Theed and Coronet.

"[17:49] [TH] Im happy to announce that in publish 8, shuttleport waits will all be 5 minutes and players will be able to travel from anyplanet to anyplanet. We are currently discussing the details of reducing the starport times. "
Its nice that we will not be waiting for transports for 10 minutes, of course. More interesting is to be considered is the effect that being able to travel from any planet to any other planet. Planets that were populace because they are central to travel will loose that advantage, and planets that had trouble gaining citizens because they were remote may find themselves with a boom of players tired of struggling under a planetary cap to grow a city.
I imagine that the population might possibly begin to migrate and spread out among the planets a bit. How do my Politician peers in this forum see the change affecting them in the near future?

I still see no reason why they can not just code it to be like theed. A starport that you ahve no wait it makes sense a shuttle port having to wait ona shuttle makes perfect sense 10 min a bit excessive i spend far too much time waiting in this game as it is.

Another thought, Theed and it's no wait policy will be the epicenter of the known universe which should be Coriscant
Interesting comments from everyone.
My thoughts on some of the above:
For starters, I do think that Coronet will still be a major, major hub (likewise for Theed - no wait is better than 5 mins any day). People are creatures of habit, and Coronet is established as that center of commerce that it is. After all, if it were just a matter of Corellia being a major junction of spaceport routes, folks could choose to travel through Tyrenna, Doaba Guerfel (sp?), or Kor Vella. But people travel through Coronet just to check out the spam or the bazaar, to catch a buff, and all of those other things that were mentioned. I can not imagine that changing any time soon.
I wonder though if some of the frustrated mayors of Naboo, Corellia and Tatooine who have had the population to expand to class 4 or 5 might not consider finding a planet with open cap space and migrate their city there. I do not know about your servers, but I know on Intrepid that there is a lot of quality space on Talus in close vicinity to Dearic and Nashal. And currently there are only three player cities on the whole planet that have shuttles.
I imagine that folks not in one of the top ten cities on Tatooine, Corellia, and Naboo will definately consider moving to one of the other worlds a lot more closely, as opposed to dismissing the idea as they might have at one time.
And I do have to wonder how some of the "backwater" world populations might feel if folks do start spreading out across a server a bit. Many of those folks tend to like the quieter, less active pace of those worlds.
In any event, I imagine things will get a bit more interesting.

Hmmm
As with anything in this game, be wary.
They may (and should) start charging more for these direct flights.
I hope it helps thin out the herd in front of Coronets Starport.
I always thought that this current change should have been in the Smugglers skill set...
"Interplanetary Travel" as a perk for knowing "the best routes" to smuggle goods...
eh, whatever...

why need starport when shuttleport can travel from planet to planet (I hope they mean player cities shuttleport) hehe
if that is the case.. woot!!! I love it!
you still have to use space ports to go from planet to planet. what he meant was that you don't have to shuttle to naboo starport in theed from corellia to then go to the star port on rori, you can now go from a star port on corellia to star port on rori. the only shuttle port change is the time in between shuttles
